Default I think I got ripped off.

I took my car for a brake squeal (whistling) issue when braking, so I took it for inspection. They told me I need rear brake pad replacement so I accepted.
Went to pick it up and was shocked with the bill. $200 for rear pads + facing for the rotor..... I was like NO ****in way I pay this so after negotiations... bill was reduced to $150 -,-.... pads cost a mere $50 and they charged $100 for labor.... Should I just buy pads from now on and install myself? What about facing?
P.S: 8000km on odo

You should have gotten an estimate before having them replaced! In any event, at least here in the States, that's a typical amount charged for labor for a job like this. Personally I never reface rotors.

You're in another country, so it's not a valid comparison, but you would pay more than $200 for this work at my local Lexus dealer.

why would the pad need replacing only after 8k KM, which is what 5k Miles? You got ripped off from that aspect, I think.

changing the rotors and pads on these cars is one of the easiest brake jobs i ve ever seen i had heard of people having lights come on on the dash i however had no problems. unbolt the caliper use a C clamp to compress the piston back into the caliper unbolt the rotor slide the new one one put the new pads in bolt it up just that simple get in the car pump the brake till you get the pedal back good as new did all 4 in about an hour

With 5000 miles (8000km) you should not need this. You probably did get ripped off. The amount you paid is right, but I don't see why you would need this so early.

Plus squealing could be caused by sand or dust in the brakes. You live in the middle east so I could imagine that could happen with all the sand dunes.

and even if OP had to have his brake pads replaced due to brake squeal, it should be done under warranty - there is a TSB out for squeaky brakes.

$230-$250 is about right, it is a Lexus and labor costs. If you want cheaper, bring the pads.....

I wouldn't have thought that $200 was pricey for a rear brake job at a dealership. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

I also got surprised when they told me i need a rear brake job.... and i asked them about tsb.... i dont think it applies to where i live. I just couldnt bare with the the squealing.. it was embarrassing so I just wanted to get
rid off it and I did after the change :/
Also does the fact that i fully depress the parking brake whenever i leave my car has a neg affect on the life of the pads?

No, this would not cause pre-mature brake wear. In fact, it's a good idea to apply the parking brake before shifting into park. You don't want to put pressure on your transmission, and it's a lot cheaper to fix your brakes than the tranny.

this is exactly why I won't take my ride to lexus anymore. costs are just way outta line...because it's a luxury toyota?? i take my ride to my guy at toyota. i trust him not my local lexus dealer. (my local lex wants 80 bones for a oil change...what a joke..plus I emailed the service mgr as to why the lexus oil change is so expensive...never heard back. probably to pay for that oversized Bellevue dealership...what a waste of space)
