Ticking / Grinding noise on start up

well. i called the local dealer. said the charge to do the diagnosis is $115 and if it happens to be the camgear, it is likely to be covered by powertrain, and then the $115 would be waived. i guess the risk for me is $115 if they do are not able to reproduce the problem or it ends up being something else. my sound compared to the youtube video is slightly smaller and shorter.

for $115 I would go for it. Trust me, they are going to do the work under warranty because thats how they get paid. The dealerships love these recalls

Diagnosis was the VVTi cam gear thingy. Should get her back tomorrow. Does anyone have the pdf for the TSB. I found one for the IS 350, but couldn't find it for the GS350. If someone has it please email it to tjlavergne@hotmail.com Thanks

My '07 has the VVTi Cam issue (TSB) and as per dealer the other day, it will be one of the recalled ones (from the 270k engine recall announcement 2 weeks ago). Full recall list is still a week or so out and replacement parts are ~ 1 month out. Again, this is according to my dealer who will perform both in one shot as opposed to having to do two separate tear downs... Suspect they'll have it for at least 2-3 days. Must schedule some long business trip drives or even a few days off in their loaners
FWIW, I have an '07 GS350 AWD (not 100% sure of build date but delivery date was late 1/07 and it was fresh from port so assume 11/06). Currently has 48.5k on the clock...

Dealer was able to reproduce the noise and replaced VVTi gears: cam gear assembly and gaskets. Covered by warranty.
Is this the TSB number: L-SB-0157-08?
