Having a front camera is a wonderful thing
Hey guys!
I just had a true professional install a high-quality front-view camera, in addition to a rearview camera system, to my GS today. And let me just say before going any further that if you happen to be on Guam and are looking to get your Lexus treated right, go see the guys at Car Audio Image. They will customize your setup the way you want it to be. Okay, going back to the camera install work, I requested that he install a separate high-quality monitor that the two cameras will be connected to and that I also can view video from the front or back at any time whether or not the tranny lever is in "D" or "R".
Here's why I wanted such a configuration. First off, I just got another awesome detailing shop called Elegant Reflections to eliminate the pointless safety feature (I highly think so) that locks out the driver from using the touchscreen when the car is in motion. Now, any of my passengers can watch a DVD or use the touchscreen to dial a phone number whether or not my car is in motion. I love the full functionality that my touchscreen used to only provide when the car had the parking brake engaged and when it wasn't moving. So, a WAHOO! for getting that mod done. Next, because video from a DVD movie can now be shown when the car is in motion, whenever I set the gear tranny lever to reverse, the movie is never temporarily cut off as I don't have the limited-functionality of the stock camera. Instead, video from the rear-view camera is being shown on the second monitor.
The great thing about having a separate monitor to broadcast either the front or rear of the vehicle whenever I want to is an awesome thing. Plus, with my two aftermarket camera units, I also have the advantage of adjusting the camera angles. And yes, another WAHOO! for this as well.
The primary reason, however, and at the least, for installing a front camera, is so that when I install my 20" Vossen VVS083 wheels and Tanabe Sustec Pro Five coilovers, I can avoid those pesky, damaging bumps and potholes that are so pervasive on the roads here. Now, I think that truly calls for a big WAAAHOOOOO!
I'll post pics when my setup is achieved. Stay tuned!

congrats on your mod. your installer probably did the wirehack to bypass the navi/dvd, it's been discussed here. front camera mod is cool, would love to see pics of that for sure.

Sure...But you will somehow have to incorporate those park assist lines like on the back camera,so you know where the end or the beginning of the vehicle is...
