My GS460 makes this sound a few seconds after shutting off the vehicle, but it doesn't worry me as my GS400 has always made a very similar sound, which turned out to be completely normal.

I heard this noise on my 3GS 450h and the noise is on my new GS but on new GS its the evaporation fuel system something like that, other words normal and in manual. If you under warranty get your dealer to check the noise just make sure to state you feel in danger of your safety so they have to check it.

This is my 4th GS. Had 2 98's (400's), a 2001 430 and now this 08 460. I have also owned a 1998 L400 and a 2007 LS460. The earlier models did not have the same (complex) actuator. I never heard the noise in any of the other Lexus cars. I have not had this 08 long. It made the noise from the moment I bought it. Could be the prior owner did something to cause the actuator to fail, maybe tried bleeding the brakes himself, it takes a scanner, and left air in the system. Maybe that made the actuator "work" harder. Not sure.
I checked the site and also thought the noise was normal. But, it started lasting longer and longer.
I am not saying what I "think". I am sharing my experience with you. If you lift your hood after turning your car off and the noise is coming from your brake actuator, near your master cylinder, and it starts lasting longer and longer, it is failing or having to work harder, longer and "may" fail.
Check Consumer Reports. Black circle for the 08 GS460 under Brakes. I suspect that rating may be from actuator problems. I am not sure.
It's possible that it may be normal for the noise to be there and it may continue and be "normal" for years but, if it starts to last longer and longer, my advice would be to insist it get replaced. Otherwise if it fails after your warranty expires it will be expensive.
Since replacing my actuator, which had a different part number btw, I have not heard "anything", no noise what so ever.
And believe me after spending that amount of money, I am listening, closely.

Again just my advice.

2006 GS430. Maybe the OP could record the sound for us to judge if it is the sound we all are talking about....

there are quite a few noises when the car shuts off. The actuator, the light, the steering column... etc....

For the record, my post began in 2009 folks.

wgreene63, like you said, it started ticking longer and longer over time. Mine's still as consistent as it was from day 1. I'm not saying you're wrong, but your explanation makes A LOT more sense now, as it has been gone over with before from our members .

As far as the ticking noise going away? I'd say you're probably right, since you got a NEW part put on the car. None of us so far have had our's replaced yet (crosses fingers) so I think it's normal for us.

As far as lex-ative asking me to record noises... There's no luck on my side, I could TRY for you if you'd like, but I've tried dabbling with youtube before and it never worked out correctly (using my phone). Don't wanna do it again.

Any of your cars have pre emptive braking? This is my first with that feature. The actuators I saw posted for sale (eBay/Amazon), could not find one for my car, were always the wrong part number. I am curious, anyone with a 2008 LS or GS experiencing any issues? I ask because those cars are getting on in years and I imagine the newer ones uses the replacement model number actuator I purchased.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but wgreene is correct. I thought that the sound coming from my car was normal, however last week I got the dreaded Brake Malfunction message. Lexus has quoted me $4,000 to replace the ABS actuator and bleed the brakes. I am currently out of warranty, so I will have to pay out of pocket. This for sure will be my last Lexus, after owning dozens of Toyotas and Lexuses, it's time to say goodbye. With this kind of maintenance might as well get a German, at least they're fun

If anyone else has experienced this issue please let me know, I plan on taking this to Lexus Corporate.

Default Weird noise

Do not discount this noise. Heard it was normal when it started with my GS460. Noticed it went longer and longer. Eventually every light in the dash that has something to do with brakes came on. Had to have the brake accumulator replaced. Part alone was over $3000. If you have a warranty get it replaced. If you don't consider getting one before it totally fails. Not trying to be a doom prophet just sharing my experience. I had a 2008 GS460. Lexus mechanic bled the brakes and the noise remained. He warned me that the accumulator would eventually fail. It did within a few weeks. I may not have the name of the part correct but it is the big aluminum block under the master cylinder. I have pic of it because I saved it. The replacement was a different part number so maybe the older part was defective and they upgraded it.

If it makes it alot, you have a faulty ABS pump.

Check out my video

Did anyone also hear any type of "barking seal noise" while stopped with brakes applied ? Not sure how else to describe the noise. Noise almost sounds like a dog barking.
