that's where vaistech comes in i have that in my car and install tons of them for a reason you have no idea how many people come to me and curse lexus for not having a good ipod solution, making them go aftermarket (and vaistech provides a good variety of choices)

I wanted to get the viastech but since I don't really need to use my iPod anymore after I got my new phone, I think it'd be a waste of $ considering I already have the 3.5mm aux on my 08. It's not like plugging in an ipod, where it also charges from the same port.. O well. I was just hoping the 08 had a USB that I missed when I was searching in the armrest.

Is there an ipod usb input that is compatible with very old ipods?

I have an ipod classic 20gb made in 2006.

When I plugged it into the usb port on the IS loaner car, it could not read the ipod.
It just said "error 1".

is vaistech compatible?

Check the software in your iPod to ensure it's the latest version. That is likely to be the problem. I have had no issues with my 2006 vintage video iPod on the LX or the early-build '10 RX I had as a loaner back in early 2009.

Software updates are less frequent than for the iPod Touch and certainly iPhones, but they still offer them through iTunes, and they also still sell classic iPods (with huge storage capacity these days).

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago with my Yamaha iPod dock for my Yamaha receiver at home. I was all excited, connected my iPod, and no luck... It wouldn't recognize it. I updated the software on iTunes, and presto, so this is why I suspect (and hope) that's what is happening to you.

.

no dice.

I installed itunes, checked the ipod software, and it says I have the latest version 3.1.1 already.

oh well. At least usb flash drive works, and detects right away.

Bummer! I guess you have a 4Gen iPod, based on that software version. Mine is a 5Gen, and the software is 1.something. I thought they were very similar except for the video feature in the 5Gen, but I guess not...

I've never tried a flash drive... probably should; nice and convenient!

I had a loaner HS250h and I plugged in my half year old ipod nano into the USB and connected no prob.

I just wish the GS had something of the sort. I guess still better than no aux

all new lexus already have factory usb. so it will be a toss and you will need to see if an ipod replacement kit is worth it or not
