Is my fuel tank dented?
So I have a sneaking suspicion my fuel tank holds less fuel than it is supposed to. Today I deliberately drove until cruising range said 0 and filled it up to max, and I could only fit 15.2 gallons. what gives? Assuming reserve is 2 gallons or even 2.5, I'm still short a gallon from what should be 18.8 gallons,
Could my fuel tank be dented or lost some kind of capacity?
For reference every time I fill up, the maximum cruising range is only about 250-275 miles

Light typically comes on/says 0 with 2-2.5 gallons left in the tank as you said, but I doubt a difference of a gallon is due to the dent, but more the pump shutting off. If you kept filling even after the pump stops, that extra gallon would likely be accounted for. With my 2006 and now my 2009, when I fill up immediately when the light turns on or meter says 0 miles left, I’m right around 15.5-16 gallons.
