What I used for my noise was 6qt of Pennzoil ultra 5w20 and 1/2 quart of Lucas synthetic oil treatment 2000 miles later noise have not came back. I have heard not to use that stuff from different sites but my other Lexus and Mitsubishi has over 230 miles on both vehicles and I stress no issues what so ever,so if I use a half quart of this stuff with oil instead of a whole quart shouldn't hurt anything , I tried it and so far it has worked for me.

What was the reason for people saying NOT to use it?

Some people are considering it to be snake oil, some are saying all this stuff does is thickens the viscosity of the oil when only thing you can do is purchase a heavier weight oil. All I can vouch for is how my wife and myself treat our vehicles which has seen only synthetic oil and a qt of reg Lucas oil treatment. so when my 07 gs350 started making that noise I said we are trying this to see if it will make a difference in this vehicle and it did, this was the first time ever using any oil treatment in this vehicle by the way this has 82000 mi on the odometer my wife and I decided to give this a try before taking it back to the dealer and using our extended warranty. If it doesn`t make any more noise I am just going to ride it out, actually my gas mileage has increased about 1.5 mpg, according to my mpg gauge.

So what are the people who are out of warranty suppose to do here? Spend $2k-$3k an have this done? I plan to try the 5w20/lucas oil at my next oil change but this is not a long term solution. Any suggestions? Anyone do this fix themselves?

Default Changed my oil and got the knocking 2008 GS350

I had my oil changed and had them us Pennzoil Ultra and a few days later got the knocking?? I guess I am still under the power train warranty but why does it show up after an oil change with a high quality synthetic 5-30.

Had my cam gears changed due to this issue. Finally bit the bullet:

Bumpasaurus...

Heard a slight rattle from under the hood, couple seconds later lost power, engine stalled. Tried starting the engine, sounds like no compression.

On the side of I-78. Was coming back from the Hershey AACA meet with couple of friends. Waiting for a tow truck.

So pissed off I can't see straight.

VVT-I actuators and valve springs done.

F this car straight to hell.

When you guys took your cars in for the valve spring recall, didn't we get an additional 100k warranty on the powertrain? If so, then couldn't we take it in to get the cam clatter fix under the new warranty?

Not an additional 100K warranty. Extended from 75K to 100K.
I have 7yr/100k EW. So Lexus gave me $1500 certficate for the next Lexus purchasewhich I used a year later for my 2011 RX350.
I heard the noise a few times at startup. So I asked dealership if they could perform the TSB at the same time with the valve spring recall which would save Lexus labor cost & a few parts.
They did.

Heard the noise for the first time this morning. Do they have to take out the spark plugs for this repair?
