its true that a car is simply something that transports people from point A to point B. but i think what makes a car special is the hard work and effort we put into it, from working hard and saving up (hopefully not getting into too much debt BEFORE modding....lol) to maintenance and the washing and waxing and so forth. i cant speak for everyone, but i personally come from a family in which my mom has had the same car for 30 years (bmw 320i) and my dad has had his for about 50 (ford mustang mach1 r). even our minivan that we use for family trips, transporting us to our bball games and days at the beach is hittin 12 years. its easy to change up cars, but i dont see the need to buy car after car. car buying is rarely an investment, so i think thats why people take such good care and go to great lengths to preserve it as close to showroom status as possible. but i agree, life is more than a car....but at the same time, it almost becomes a part of us because of all that had to be done to obtain it.
All true, But for me, the enjoyment I get/got out of modding my cars is the journey not the outcome. I enjoyed spending time with my friend's at car shows, prepping the cars and what not. Later in life I enjoyed spending time with my son working on my car teaching him what I know (Even if he didn't really understand and just wanted to spend time with his dad), I enjoyed creating the memories. The final project car was icing on the cake indeed, but those memories are all more important too me especially after many of them are now gone.
I once saved up money and worked on obtaining my dream car for 13 years before I had to let that car go a couple of years ago. I know what it feels like to work so hard for a car and have something happen too it. In fact a coworker of min backed into its fender and that one fender alone was a $1200 piece. No worries though, it got fixed and that is all that matters. My ex wife also once damaged half the rear right side of one of our cars we were going to enter into a car show 6 weeks before the show. That was not fun, but it got fixed and got into the show. I never got mad at her because it just wasn't worth getting mad at. None of that would have helped getting the car fixed, so no sense stress out and make any situation worse. Just do what you have to do to fix the situation. Makes life much more enjoyable when you are not worried about what will happen to your car every second.
