Ok so it was 5 degrees outside when i got in my car this morning, it sure would have been nice to let it warm up before i got in, that wood wheel is like holding a block of ice.

So I've tried searching for an answer but haven't found what i was looking for so far.....

Is there a remote start system that can utilize the factory remote??? All i want is the car to start and everything else be just like factory and I'm not interested in carrying some aftermarket alarm remote on my keychain. It would be ideal if i could convert my trunk button on my remote to a start button but i dont know if thats even possible...

Anyone on here got something like this???

I was offered to get a remote start put into my car, I would be able to use my stock remote to start the car. But if you go this route why not have a second remote that would work a much longer distance and notify you when the car alarm goes off.

Because i dont want a second remote bulking up my key chain, i definitely dont want an aftermarket alarm, and as far as distance my stock remote works fine from my house to my driveway and i park 15 feet away from my office at work which is inside a fenced in facility patrolled by guards.

I was offered aftermarket remote start module, which would work with a factory key. I think it was VIPER, If you want OEM setup then go to the dealer and install it.

Viper Smart Start is what I have on my car...unlimited range and you don't need an additional remote. The integrated factory remote start doesn't let you know if your car has started and doesn't have very good range,

Anyone know what a dealer charges for the remote start? I didn't even know this was an option...

I had the Viper smart start installed last Sept, cost me $$400 and it was installed by a certified Viper dealer/installer I was put in contact with via Viper's website. With the smart start you wont have to carry an extra key fob (but can if you want), I personally start my car using my iphone (it has unlimited range as it works on cell phone signals). It doesn't take too strong of a signal to start the car either. I park 3 levels underground in a concrete garage where I can NEVER use my phone yet I can start my car 90% of the time. I think it was worth the money. A few things I learned along the process

1) Viper does offer what's called the 3 times lock, which, if you press the lock key 3 times with your factory remote it starts the car. Unfortunately it does not work on Toyotas.

2) Another nuance with Toyotas is when you get in the car and press the break you have to either a) simultaneously press the start button (must be synched VERY well) or b) press only the brake the car will shut off and you'll have to start it like you normally would. Other makes have a sequence you can follow that allows you to drive away if the car detects the key.

3) Be sure to have it installed by someone with very good reviews, should you decide to get one, as I've heard and read about a few horror stories.
