Default To tpms or not on spare rims

Planning on buying a set of spare rims and snows from tirerack. The option is the tpms at an extra cost of $400.00 Then I assume I would have to take it to Lexus to have the spare rims setup so the onboard computer recognizes the second set of tpms sensors

Second option would be not to have the tpms sensors installed, live with the light on the dash and save the $400.00 and the cost of taking it to lexus to have the new rims registered

Anyway, is it worth having them installed or should I leave them off and live with the dash light constantly on for the winter.

Anyone running spare rims without having tpms sensors installed ? Is it annoying. Would it shorten the life of the led since the warning would be on all winter ?

imho, if i were in snow areas with spare rims, i would get a 2nd set of tpms. you have the switch on the car to go back and forth between the two sets of tpms, not worth the trouble to take the tps from one set to another every time. a bit money for less hassle

you can get a brand new OEM set for a lot cheaper on ebay.. i paid $120 shipped from this guy..

then again, you probably sporting those wheels only for 3 months max. tpms will reset once you are near your original set of wheels..

I see that he had two sets and both sold.
I read somewhere that if you have a 2006 GS that they made two different sensors. Depended on the year the 06 was made. Not sure yet what year mine was produced, but that is important before buying a set that says it will fit all 2006.

you can get a new set of the exact sensors you need from TireRack as well and they will mount them for you for alot less money than your Lexus stealership or even from and online Lexus parts depot. They will send you the codes on paper so you don't have to have the tires unmounted to get the codes. Take them to a Toyota dealership, they will be able to program them in and usually charge less than the Lexus dealership.

Get the sensors, the light become annoying quickly.
