I believe that is just in the newest dvd for the older hardware cars ala 2002.

I heard that with the 8.1 if you have a passenger some of the functions are unlocked

can anyone confirm?

have not heard that one and wonder how the car could validate that? unless it was just a 'agree' button that you in fact have a passenger.

There is a sensor in the passenger sit as well

there are sensors but i don't know if it's pre-connected to the nav system already?

How difficult is it to update the Nav system to 8.1?

Dealer wants $400 to do it and told me it takes about 20-30 minutes, so I'm guessing it's not to complicated. I'm a retired Engineer, so I have some technical background.

I have a 2007 RX400h (bought June, 2007) and we have some new roads where the Nav goes a little nuts when we drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

dealership is lying big time... just buy the dvd and do it yourself. take out the old dvd, and put in the new one. i say 15 secs max. the dvd is just like 260 bucks?

20-30 minutes? To swap a disk? Are they doing this in slow motion, or on crack cocaine? As Rominl stated above, that's a rip off! I would complain to Lexus HQ about this, as your dealer should NOT treat their customers that way.

I must have one of the first built gs' ever. the manufacture date is january 2005!
