Invoice pricing on Edmunds.com
#2
when i was doing my research, i found that the dealers around here were stating an invoice price of about $900 ABOVE what edmunds.com said. (this is for the 2008 GS 350)
i challenged every dealer on this: that edmunds.com said the invoice is about $900 lower, but among the 5 dealers i worked with, they all provided an invoice price that was consistent with that vehicle. in other words, they all stated the exact same invoice price for that exact car in that color, options, etc.
so maybe they are colluding somehow, or perhaps they are all tacking on the advertising fee to the invoice and using that grossed-up price as the invoice?

this was a few weeks ago when i bought it, so i know the state of the economy is different now than it was last year, so dealers are more willing to negotiate.

i'm in northern california around the bay area. the 2 dealerships that gave me the best prices were Lexus of Stevens Creek and Lexus of Pleasanton.
i think i saw in your other post that you are close to pulling the trigger.....what did you decide on (color, option packages, etc.) and what was the final pricing you were given? this weekend may be the best time since it's month-end and they are closing out on "The Event" on Tuesday, so they are probably more willing to negotiate.

Edmunds doesn't include things like mandatory advertising fees. There's a NorCal dealer advertising fee that runs about $400 I think. Few minor CA state related ones, but those are only a few bucks. $900 sounds a bit high though. Should be more like $500-600 from what I remember.
I ended up with the best prices from Walnut Creek and Stevens Creek I believe. I ended up buying from Stevens Creek cuz that sales guy was the nicest and most polite/professional.
