I know it's said that doing that is fine but I can't get myself to do it.
I shut the Auto off before shutting down.
Occasionally,I'll shut the auto off (with A/C on) a mile from my stop to dry out the lines and not cause a mildew odor.

I do, just a habit of mine, I don't want to have the AC on when I start the car.
you should be glad that there is an OFF button on the Lexus.. BMW has no off button and you have to press the fan switch like 5 times to lower it to OFF, ANNOYING!

Maybe that's for older systems.
The wifey's RX is a lease so I leave the Auto on all the time and never shut down a mile from the stop.I don't have any mildew odor, though.

And on top of that it restarts every time you start the car again. There is no way to just keep climate control OFF.

I just leave it as is, its too hot to be turning the a/c off 1 mile away from home because its humid in FL. I park my car inside a garage so it isnt as bad compared to leaving it outside in the hot sun.

Huh? I never shut down automatic climate control in any vehicle, and I never had any problems such as a mildew odor. Shutting down climate control in a luxury vehicle made in the last few years makes as much sense as warming up your car before you drive off...

I have a GS450H and the A/C will stay off when you start the car, it does on this one and it did on the RX hybrid, I almost never turn on the A/C, I rather have the windows down and get fresh air, I usually only turn on the A/C if I have a passenger. The hottest it has gotten in DC so far this year has only been 98 and I felt fine with the windows open. However yesterday I took a 30 mile ride on RT 85 and I was forsed to turn it on because I don't like the wind blowing on me when I am doing 60 to 70 MPH. I have never been bothered by heat but I hate the cold, I even bring a light wind breaker to wear when I go into an air conditioned store.
Since the hybrid A/C is not engine driven I doubt leaving it on when starting the car makes a diffrence, I have a hunch that turning it off jus before you get to yourn destination may help prevent mildew because it would dry out the ducts. But that is just a hunch
