Default Ash Tray Removal

I am looking at installing a Escort 9500Ci into my Gs350 and I want to put the controls in the Ash Tray area so I can close it and not see the controls. Has anyone removed this before? Things I am wondering is can the ashtray and lighter be removed without damage to anything else? How do I get the wood facade off? Do you just start at the armrest and click it off? What do you think. Thanks

there are some info about the Japan Console Tray that may be helpful for you.

you will have to take off the whole shift plate to remove the ashtray. pop off the little black trim at the bottom of the radio unit (sort of hidden), and then put the stick in N. then pop up the whole wooden part of the shift plate

Once removed, the plastic console box that houses the ashtray is available for mods, but is very small. I custom mounted a Valentine 1 remote in this location but it required a lot of modification with hobby tools and drills. It can be done and the end result is very stealthy and functional.

i don't know what to you mean by "whole unit", but from the above link

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=286471

at least that ashtray/lighter assembly could be removed from the shift plate.
