Default How long do your brakes last you?

I searched for a "brake life" thread and couldn't find one so I thought I'd get some feedback from all of you Lexus GS vets. On my previous car, Cadillac STS 2005, my brakes would last me between 12-15,000 miles. I do a lot of stop and go commuting in Los Angeles so I know that takes away brake life. However, my local Cadillac Dealership (Parkway Valencia) insisted on replacing the rotors everytime I needed the brake pads to be replaced. They wouldn't rotate the rotors like on other cars, but insisted on replacing the rotors. Obviously this became extremely expensive.

On average, what kind of brake life are you people getting on your GS? What kind of driving do you normally do? Do you replace only the pads or rotors too? How much does it cost you?

I thank you all in advance....

my car is still too new to talk about replacing pads

but for sure you can rotate / surface the rotors instead of getting new ones

Thanks for the feedback guys. This should be Night and Day versus my old Cadillac STS where brakes only last between 12-15000 miles.

Lexus brakes tend to last pretty long. My last Lexus, an 04 IS300, I was able to get 95k on the front pads and about 70k on the rear pads. I put 105k miles on it 4 years. Mind you my commute was about 105 miles a day in mixed city and freeway. Majority of the miles were freeway. It all really depends on your driving style and commute. Most people have a bad habit of riding their brakes for a long period before a stop or some just brake too hard.

This is very reassuring, as my commute is very similar to yours. I will likely average 27k a year or so.

I just replaced my front pads over the weekend. They lasted me 18k miles. I don't know the brand since they were the original pads from when I bought the car. My car is tuned to perform, so I guess I went through them pretty quickly.

On the Lexus advertisment, it states the high friction pads on the GS can last as short as 20000 miles. Have anyone actually had to replace them at 20K miles?

29000 on my 07, starting to get that squeal when applying the brakes, will have them checked at the 30k service.

Nidan, do you have the normal pads or the low dust pads?
