Vaistech Announces NEw iPod product for the 300
I just got this from Vaistech. I have been on their GS300 wait list for the iPhone/iTouch adapter:
We are happy to announce that SL2Vi (iPod Video integration) is finally
compatible with new iPod
Classic, iPod Touch, iPhone and 3rd Gen Nano.
You can place an order through our Sales line.
Orders will start shipping on Wednesday March 25th, but we do expect
2-3 day back orders in the beginning due to limited supply.

So how does this exactly work? Does this work with 08 models? Does this automatically handle the video problem? Can someone please explain somone with an 08 model what they would basically benefit from this.
Thanks so much

The SL2Vi has a direct connection harness to fit the nav/audio unit. A separate connection cord is run into the glove box or center console. The ipod or iPhone is either removed or kept in place. All songs are available in playlists from your audio selector switches and is reflected in the indash display. Added bonus is that the Vaistech unit automatically presses the idiot button to start your nav system. Check with the company about compatability w/ your year:

Vaistech's tech support guy told me a month ago it was working for all models of the '06 300, they had to finish their beta testing before going to a general release. I'm waiting for the 3G iPhone to come out but will order the SL2Vi now just to allow the nav dismiss- automatically.

I was under the impression that the VAIS unit that was for ipod support, SL2i, would work for my iPhone, given that it is basically an ipod with enhanced features. Why are they now saying we need to go to the full blown SL2VI unit to have iPhone support? Are they offering phone book synch from the iPhone to the NAV?

I sent them the following email.
"I have a 2007 Lexus GS350 with Mark Levinson w/DVD and reverse camera. NO navigation. I also have a 80gb ipod classic. Will this combo work? Also, does this mean I can watch my ipod video? If yes, will I be able to let my kids watch the video while I drive?"
the reply:
If you have factory DVD and Mark Levinson system then SL2Vi isn't yet compatible with your car. It will be compatible in about 6 weeks, but it will work according to Toyota/Lexus safety feature, which means you can't watch it while you are driving.
So if I read that right, the video part isnt working yet, and I still can't watch anything while the car is moving. Bummer.

Right- the unit for the GS350 is NOT available yet, but it does work with the '06 300. As for the video while driving, you still have to perform the DVD/Nav bypass hack for always available video.
