Default GS350 vs. Infiniti G35 Sedan

What do you guys think of the G35 Sedan and do you think the nearly $10K premium for the GS is worth it?

Thanks.

G35 has the power, but not the refinement and passenger room of the GS 350.

You want pure sport and performance, the G35 does the job.
You want pure luxury and comfort with speed, the GS 350 excels.

That $10k extra has nothing to do with what's under the hood. It has to do with everything else. That $10k difference is the same difference as what the $10k does between the Altima V6 and the G35...

That $10k buys you a wholla lotta luxo features that the G35 doesn't even offer. That $10k can, if not fully or mostly, be at least proportionately reclaimed when you sell the car. Obviously that depends on lotta factors, like when you sell it, but remember the gap you see now will proportionately remain throughout the life of the car and give you the opportunity to reclaim it. In 5 years, an 07 G35 will not, I assure you, be commanding the same money as an 07 GS350.

Same with a GS350 with ML vs one without, which is why I never understand why people fret over that couple grand they would spend on an ML. Spend the extra now - love it, enjoy it, watch it, caress it, feel it, kiss it, even listen to it - then reap some financial returns when you sell it. Win-win.

You should be comparing the GS350 w/ the M35. The G35 is a totally different class of car.

the g35 bites a lot of styling cues from the GS. chop the front and back, and you basically have a GS body.

The leather in the GS is much softer and seats are designed better. The accleration of the G35 is unrefined. you can't smoothly accelerate in that car. you go from 0 to 30 immediately, rather than gradually.

Also, the $10000 premium shrinks quite a bit when you consider gas mileage. The g35 mileage + 5 speed is gonna cost you $$$$$ at today's gas prices.

really? With Hawaii's short driving distances, I'm lucky to get 19mpg with my GS350. Mostly its 18mpg. I would hate to see the G35 if that's the case.

And while the GS350 says luxury, if you want features (at least here in Hawaii) the G35 is WAY better. Since Lexus cut out the nav in the gs350 but kept the price the same as it had one (well close to the cost) the G35 with nav and voice features seem good. at $10k less. I wonder how much better will their g35 08 be. I heard they are changing it a little.

Part of me would sell my '07 for 42k and buy the g35. I think I can still fit the baby seats in the back, and while I loose some lux touches, I would rather have more bells and whistles like the navigation and voice features which my gs350 doesnt have. I bet Hawaii is one of the only markets to sell the ML audio with reverse camera and no nav/voice

True. The only reason why I was talked into the gs350 from the IS350 when I was looking for a car was that there was backseat space in the GS, the IS didn't have the room to stick one in. On the other hand, the G35 is larger in the rear seats than the gs350. I should've test drove the g35, but I went to the lexus dealer first.

I think the 2k premium the GS 350 has over the M35 is worth it. For 10k it surely is worth it.

The GS is the Japanese sports luxury sedan originator. God is in the details of this car.

The G35 really has more space in the rear seats than a GS350?

I was really close to ordering a new 08 G35 Sport. I test drove the 07 and loved it. Tranny was smooth despite what people say. It shifted just as smooth as my 99 LS400 that has only 50K miles on it. Seats felt great because I drove the sports package. Loved the handling and steering feel. Loved that it has navigation in Hawaii unlike Lexus which was already mentioned above. Loved that it has an AUX video and audio input and it is standard on ALL G35's. Over all, I was dead set on selling my LS400 to get the 08 G35. The only reason why I didn't order the Infiniti was because I came across an 02 BMW 330i Sedan with Premium and Sports package for a really good price with 21K miles on it. I bought that instead. That saved me about $15K. I think I'll buy the G35 or M35 later in the future.

Over all, what doesn't the G35 have that the GS has? Each car has a few things that the other doesn't offer, but they both seem pretty fairly equal in options and features.

Jason,

All the statements are just my personal opinions:

Initially I was waiting for the new G35 as well, but when I saw the final design (in October 2006, I think)I went and ordered myself a GS350 instead. Just due to the fact that now the new G35 looks like a Nissan Altima?!?

At the time I was not sure if I have made the right decision of getting GS350 instead of G35, I could of save 10K on it too.

In Janurary, my GS350 was in the body (hit and run, some idiot had dented my front bumper). I got the new G35 as loaner.

This is my impression of new G35 (GS350):
1.. I: Exterior looks like a Altima with Maxima's door handles;
L: Sleek and sportly;

2. I: Interior is better than the old one, but still look very plastic;
L: Better materials and more luxury, but do not really like the wood on steering wheel.

3. I: Perform better than Lexus in everyway (handling, cornering, acceration), but how often do we really drive in Napa Valley in CA or 2222 in Austin TX. (Now my GS has about 7,000 miles on it, it now run dead even against IS350 from 0-70).

4. I: Exhaust sounded pretty sweet for awhile, but after sometimes, it became ignoring (might of being spoiled by Lexus' quiet interior); I would not minded, if exhaust only can be hear during hard acceration.

5. I:When you floor it, sometimes it felt like the transmission is slipping (you can see the RPM needle going up and the exhaust, but you do not really feel the vehicle going fast). But LOVE the fact that when you downshift, it will double-clutch itself, so you won't felt the power is being cut off.
L: Didn't really care for it transmission, not as responsive as G35s.

6. But with G35 you do save at least 10K over GS350.

Either ones you choose can not be as bad trying to get into Mercedes or BMW. But if you decided on getting Infiniti, I would highly recommend getting the extended warranty if you are going to keep it for longer than the factory warranty (experience from family members and friends either with G35, I30, M35, Sentra, and Maxima... their on-board computer all went out right after the factory warranty; cost over 2k per repair plus 1-2 months wait for the parts).

Hopes this helps, best wishes.

Steve
