08 gs in general-navigation for hawaii

The mapping rights to Hawaii have not been released for licensing. That's why there is no Toyota/Lexus NAV available for HI.

Yup. ALL Lexus and Toyotas don't have nav in Hawaii. BMW, Acura, Honda, Ford, Nissan, Infiniti all have Maps.
I wanna slap Lexus for not having it. Hech, Toyota is the #1 selling car here. That's why I'm hoping they have have the map in '08. Well hoping only I could find a way to sell my car and get the 08.

Denso and Fujitsu-Ten are the ones who create the maps for the Toyota/Lexus navigation. One of my co-workers once worked for Denso in the past. He was in one of the teams who actually mapped all the roadways, POI's and landmarks for the nav system. From what I recall that he told me, the accuracy goal of each POI was about one half mile.

Yang- Sorrry, but thats a smart alec remart. Thats the reason Lexus used on me when selling the car. By that same idea, why have power folding mirrors when you can get your *** out of the car and fold them. Or why have auto down functions on the windows when you can just keep your finger pushed on the buttons. Why have 300+HP in this day and age when gas cost so much?
Lets not go there. I use the map. Next time some says I want to meet you on Koawe'a street which crosses Pau'kuu street. Go have fun and look it up on the map.

Dude....thats soo crappy! thats probly the biggest BS ive heard in a while. i cant believe (Toyota of all companies) doesnt make NAV mapping for HI. Not to rub it in, but now that i have a car with NAV, ill never own one without. I guess its basically required living in So*Cal. it saves me time and time again. Sorry about the luck!

That logic is flawed. You don't need to look up the route every single time you drive, do you?
No offense man, it is retarded that no map of Hawaii is included but I'm just saying the need to really use a navigation system (aka road trip to a brand new city) isn't as big in Hawaii IMHO.

Then youre wrong. We're an Island. Doesn't make it any less useful. I don't need it to find the market or my working place. But if I need to goto any new place, I would use it, which is why I would want the navigation. But saying I'm on an Island doesn't mean we don't have streets, having less streets doesn't mean its useless. If anything its harder too lookup as 90% of the streets on Hawaii is mostly vowels. Like Indian language. Not the easiest thing to look up for follow on the road while driving and reading street signs.
And if the only reason to use a nav for a road trip, then thats not the greatest idea to spend $1k in a car unless you do that on a constant basis.
But unless you live here and needed to lookup addresses on a constant basis, then I can see why you would think the Island is small enough not to need one.
K, I'll get off the soap box.

Hear hear, Starstreak. As a displaced former Kama'aina, I'm used to hearing these sort of comments about the islands all the time! Finding Kapiolani Blvd. and Keeaumoku St. isn't too tough ... but like Starstreak said, finding a house up on Tantalus can be tough (do the Marcos' still live up there?) Most people seem to think Honolulu is a little one-block island, where everyone knows everyone ("Hey man, do you know a guy named Glen Miyashiro? He's, like, friends with my sister, man.")
I actually think Nav can be more useful on the islands than on the mainland. I use Nav much more often to make my way over to Queens or Brooklyn than I do to find my way to new cities (which I do maybe once or twice a year). Navi is useful in finding small streets in local areas, and for that, it's very useful in Hawai'i. Given Servco's domination of Toyota/Lexus in the islands, I find it surprising that they couldn't wield enough influence to include maps of HI.
