Exactly.
Toyota is more of a "need."
Lexus is more of a "want."
And there is nothing wrong with spending a little extra $$ for something that you want, just as long as you can afford it. I would. You tell me I have to buy either a Camry for $25k or an ES350 for $35k, and I will ALWAYS get the ES350 between the two...

it's gonna be hard to spend all your savings. so why not buy something fancy every once in a while....?
the camry is $10000 cheaper cuz it has crappier build quality, and many features are stripped out. lots and lots of cost cutting, and the car is just ugly.
we pay $10000 over the ES for the design and other crap. Though this often makes me wonder why other car companies can't put GS-like sheet metal on more affordable cars. The altima did it recently, however.
Why does toyota uglify their cars? It probably costs the same to make the sheet metal more attractive.

Well, how attractive a car looks is very subjective. Car manufacturers create all these designs and models to target different customers. For the GS, it probably appears to be "better-looking" to a younger crowd than the ES does and vice versa.
To me, I love my GS and not the ES (although it is pretty nice) and definitely not the Camry.
