XM radio--what if not factory installed?
Any experience as to how easy it is to have XM Satellite radio installed on a 2007 GS if the car did not have it factory installed? Is there any noticable about the "after factory" installation? Should a Lexus dealer do the install or are there other outlets where it can be done without looking like an add-on?

I did my homework on this one. Buy it from Sewell Lexus (
www.lexus-parts.com ). Mine was $287.49 shipped to California. (It's on order now) They have the install instructions on their web site. According to others it is between a 20 minute and one hour install. It may come with a free 3 month offer. My local dealers wanted $750 to $995 for the unit and installation.
The best thing about this is it OEM and uses the shark fin antenna.

DId it last week with Sirius.
Very easy and not much to screw up.
I did not even disconnect the battery - but do so at your own risk as it clearly states to disconnect it in the instructions.!!!!!
I put the ant on the back ledge and think I will move it from there soon as the reception is not the best now that I have had it for a while.
Def not worth paying for...

this is an extremely easy DIY w/ the OEM kit you can order from Sewell for $269 + shipping. Use the Club Lexus discount code: CL911M. FWIW, kits are installed at the port not factory and due to the demand of GS, it'll be hard finding one w/ it already installed and printed on the sticker...
The only difference I experienced between having it installed at port or dealer is the extra weight still in my wallet
Here's a summary of the install:
for the OEM XM kit on the '07 GS, everything is done in the trunk. Extremely easy to do. Quick run down of the steps:
disconnect battery
pull trunk liner
2 bolts to install tuner box in existing holes
connect 1 antenna lead
feed 1 wire harness to plug into existing harness at amp in right rear 1/4 panel
5-6 zip ties and a few pieces of foam tape to secure everything
utility knife to trim the trunk liner (ps it's premarked on the inside in case you were wondering/worried )
re-install liner
re-connect battery
reset windows & sunroof (open each half way and then back to top & hold)
call XM to activate radio
enjoy!
Couldn't have been easier and will take under 1hr to install - seriously

Are you sure everything is done from the trunk? I thought I read you had to pull the head unit from the dash.

No need to pull h/u. Everything on my '07 GS350 I did in the trunk. I know the ES, GX and RX all require pulling the h/u, but the GS does not (for OEM XM). I think if you go the VaisTech route it requires pulling the h/u.

Just finished (kind of) the install on the OEM XM kit I bought through Sewell. Piece of cake. The only problem is the kit listed the cable that goes from the receiver to the shark fin antenna but came with the mini hockey puck one. I emailed Sewell and I am sure they'll get me the cable I need. Until then the mini puck is in the right rear lower corner of the rear window.
And, it did come with three free months of XM.

So if you wanted to have the sharkfin added the only way to do that is thru the dealer??? Does anyone know how much it would cost to get the sharkfin??? I know some of you don't like it but I don't think it's that bad... Just my $.02
