Default Gs300 Vs Gs350 Mpg

from what the manufactures are saying, the GS300 and GS350 gets the same gas mileage. is this true? i though the 350 would have worst gas mileage.

The 350 is a newer, technologically-advanced, gas-efficient engine.

The 300 is an old model that is over 6 years old.

I can get into more complex explanations, but that's pretty much it in a nutshell. Progress by R&D made this new engine more powerful with the same amount of gas efficiency...

i thought being in the 3rd generation thread will help exclude the other gens.

its an 06 indeed but the engine in the 06 300 was designed many years prior to 06. hope that helps.

The engines are very similar in architecture. 3.5L V6 2GR-FSE and 30L 3GR-FSE. They are both Dual VVT-i, direct injection motors based off the 1GR-FE 4.0L V6 found in the Tacoma/4Runner platform. There are 4 varations of the GR series motor in different applications 1GR - 4.0L, 2GR- 3.5L, 3GR- 3.0L, 4GR - 2.5L.

To make a correction, the 2006 GS300 has an all new V6 motor for the 3rd Generation GS. The GS300 of previous has had a 2JZ-GE I-6 3.0L cast iron block since it's inception in 1993 (JZS147). The addition of VVT-i was added for the 2nd gen (JZS160) 1998 model year up to 2005. The VVT-i version 2JZ-GE was also found in the 1st generation IS300.

did the 300 have direct injection. I would think that would make a difference if not.

Yes. The 3GR-FSE in the 06 GS300 had direct injection, hence the "S" in the engine code.

Looks like about 1 mile difference. Not bad considering the extra HP and Torque. Like flipside909 mentions, the 06 and 07 engines are very similar in design.

2007 GS 350
3.5 L V6 RWD
303 horsepower
274 lb-ft of torque
6-Speed Automatic
0-60: 5.7 seconds
21 mpg city/29 mpg highway

2006 GS 300
3.0 L V6 RWD
245 horsepower
230 lb-ft of torque
6-Speed Automatic
0-60: 6.8 seconds
22 mpg city/30 mpg highway

I've been getting 33 - 34 mpg in my 06 GS 300 on the freeway pretty reliably. I normally drive between 70 and 80. I live in a rural area, so I drive very little in traffic. Is this unusual? It's one of the pleasant surprises that I've had with this car. I've heard that the GS350 is good for about 27 - 29 highway. On average, I'm exceeding the GS 350 mileage by 5-6 mpg. I consider that a substantial difference.

Chocaholic,

I have a 2006 GS300 and Last week I took it for the first time on a 500 mile road trip. starting with a full tank I was getting between 33 to 35 MPG. on level and straight HWY i was getting close to 37 MPG. that only lasted for about 30 minutes then it droped to around 35. My speed was around 70 mph with cruise control on. I was very surprised. usually I get beween 22 - 25 MPG city/HWY driving.

Steven...yes, stock 17's with a new set of Khumo ASX's to replace OEM Yoko's.

Taz...those numbers are similar to mine. It's been a pleasant surprise. I would expect better mileage than the 350, but not that big of a difference.

Oh and didnt we add a extra gear with the new motor? That would equate to more gas mileage.

Same 6spd auto used for the GS300 and GS350.
