Manual Retraction of Side Mirrors
The side mirror on the driver's side of my '07 GS350 was manually retracted by someone ... when I auto-retract the side mirrors now, the timing isn't perfectly synchronized (the passenger side mirror fully retracts 1/2 second before the driver side one fully retracts ... not sure if this was casued by the manual retraction or not, as I had never auto-retracted the side mirrors before the manual retraction occurred) ...
Any thoughts on whether manual retraction from time to time would likely cause damage to the retraction mechanism?

I would just take it in and show it to the dealer. Don't tel lhim what happened. Just say the mirrors aren't in sync.
I've manually retracted mine. Multiple times. It works fine. The first time you use the button, it'll push out the murror and lock it in place again. after that it should be in sync.

If you think about it, the mirrors are not symmetrically positioned. I think the right side mirror is angled closer to the car (I know I'm not explaining this well). If I had an overhead picture of the car you'd see what I mean. So the driver side mirror has farther to retract.
At least that's my theory.

In very cold, damp weather my LS 430's mirrors would sometimes stick and often opened and closed at slightly different rates. Lexus replaced the driver's side mirror but I still occasionally had the problem with dampness and cold.
BTW, the driver's seat went bonkers one very cold very damp day and suddenly started running up to full-forward full-up position. Since I'm 6'-3" this was a startling occurance.
Note: this NEVER happened in OH where it is colder but it is drier than in VA.
