GS350: automatic door lock feature?
Does anyone know if it is possible to program or a set a feature to automatically lock the car as one walks away from the car? I love the automatic unlock feature without using the keyfob by simply touching the back of the door handle with the key in my pocket but sure wish a way existed to have the car lock as I walked away from the car while simply leaving the key in my pocket.
Perhaps its just a dream like having the ability to automatically fold and unfold the exterior mirrors when I park the car?

Wishful thinking. But nope. Can't do it. It's been discussed before.
When I was buying my car, the salesperson told me that it would do it... but it doesn't. Lies! Lies! Lies!

folding mirrors should've been added to arming the car. that was dumb on Lexus. But the locking feature is left off on purpose. You can lock it by pressing the button on the door. Which at least that is a good idea. I have left my keys in the center console and it will NOT allow to lock the door. Thank goodness.Dunno how it knows its inside but must have an internal sensor.
I still want my folding mirrors to work with the alarm. Its so dumb that I must hit the button to open and close it. Its smart enough to lower the sunshade when reversing. you would figure its smart enough to move the mirrors.

Not sure if youre laughing at the idea, of him doing that or that the doors will now lock. If its the latter, the reason why they do that is if you come near your car and you hit the unlock button while the keys are in your pocket. You don't hear the car unlock. But at least the car will autolock if you dont open anything. My Sienna van does that.

Ah I guess it makes sense now that I think about.
Let's face it, with this smart access system, you, the driver, has very little direct contact with the actual key fob itself. Presumably, it's in your pocket most of the time, which is you would assume everytime to get in or get out of the car. Well imagine if you had auto lock and you forget your keys in the car (it drops out or you just plain forget). You'd get out and walk away from the car assuming that the autolock will kick in. The car won't lock and anybody can just jump your car and drive away with it. OR.... it does lock and you're now you're stuck outside your car.
After considering that, pressing that little button on the handle makes a ton of sense. Press it, the car locks, everything's okay. Press it, you get that long beep, then you've got a problem. Door not closed all the way or keys left in the car.
And of course it senses the key inside the car. How do you think the keyless engine start works?
