You don't need to autox to have better braking performance. I feel safer knowing I can brake on a dime.

if you don't have bbk, how can you make that statement then? i own gs400 and sc430. my wife and i don't autox, and never will. we both have bbk on our cars. we love them, and we can't live without them. we can't even count how many times they saved us. some people don't believe, but that's too bad. bottom line is many times already our brakes saved us when we needed the car to stop fast.

this is especially true for people with larger wheels

Sorry for the newbie question, but is this BBK a Lexus aftermarket option you are talking about, or something else altogether, like Brembo etc. ? TIA for the clarification....

To me, anything bigger than stock (in terms of pistons) is BBK.

THe newer 430 have 4 piston brakes right? Might be easier trying to locate a set of those if you can for cheap.

Does the 3rd gen use the same mounts as the 2nd gen?

It's not about auto-x; it's about the GS300 having small, underpowered brakes for a car its size and weight, and as rominl mentioned, peace of mind knowing that you can stop faster in case of an emergency.

I looked around several websites (ie Brembo, Wilwood, Rotora, Endless, Stoptech, AP Racing and Project Mu) but I didn't see any offering a BBK for the '06 GS300 on their application guides.

i didn't realize the gs 300 brakes suck. They feel fantastic on the 350. But i agree braking is very important. I just thought exessive braking power wouldn't be worth the $$.

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about brakes in general. The reality is, a big brake kit may or may not provide better stopping distances depending on the situation. If we are taking about the typical, non-aggressive driving that most people do 95% of the time, the stock brakes are more than capable of locking up the wheels (assuming ABS is taken out of the equation) so having more "power" isn't really going to decrease stopping distances.

The thing that really improves stopping distances moreso than the BBK is wider, stickier tires.

That said, the BIG advantage of a BBK is it's ability to dissipate heat better (more surface area = more heat transfer) and thus provide more consistent braking performance without brake fade during extended braking.

This advantage is typically why people who track their cars upgrade their brakes as they find that most stock brakes begin to fade even after a couple of hot laps around a track.

In the real world, this is useful too in situations where you are coming down a mountain and using your brakes a lot or if you are slowing from very high speeds.

If your driving doesn't typically see these types of situations, then a BBK's main advantage is basically the really sporty look as it may not give better braking performance than regular brakes even in a typical panic stop situation.

yeah, totally. i actually wonder if the brakes (including brackets) on the 3gs300 are the same as those on the 2gs? they look the same, but the bracket is always the most important i guess. if so, then anything for the 2gs would fit (i guess)

and also, since day one the cars came out, i already questioned whether the gs430 brakes have the same bracket as the gs300 ones. if so, then you get very easy and simple brakes upgrade i suppose

Go to an Infiniti dealership and request a test drive on an older G35 coupe that is equipped with the Brembo's. The braking is very smooth.
