Default POLL TIME!! SHOWDOWN! 07 GS 350 vs 06 GS 430

I am sure there are a few others thinking this as well. Lets see what we have here

The cars will look identical.
GS 350 has Gen 5 NAV vs GS 430 Gen 4
The GS 350 will still be lighter than the GS 430
Acceleration will be very very similar. The GS 350 will have slightly more peak power 306 vs the 430s 300. As you can see the V-8 has the low end advantage and doesn't have to work as hard to make its power. Both keep the same 6 speed auto.
3.5-Liter V6
Horsepower
306 @ 6,400 RPM [2]
Torque (lb-ft)
277 @ 4,800 RPM

VS

4.3-Liter V8
Horsepower
300 @ 5,600 RPM [2]
Torque (lb-ft)
325 @ 3,400 RPM [2]

Weight
430 Curb Weight (lb. / kg)

3,748 / 1,700

350 (estimate)

Curb Weight (lb. / kg)

3,550 / 1,604

That is a good 200lns less, like having one less passenger in your car.

From my understanding, there are no plans to put VDIM in the GS 350, that comes in the 430. Thus from a "fun" standpoint, the lighter and no VDIM having GS 350 might be more fun to drive, more tossable and no electronics in the way.

As for the 430, there is nothing like the low end torque of a V-8 and the "sound" of the engine compared to a V-6.

Gas mileage will be comparable, with the edge to the newer and smaller displacement V-6.

So which one? Especially if you go with a pre-owned GS 430. The price will then be the same!!

I'll take the 350 AWD, maybe a little better mileage, and several thousand dollars !

Definitely the 2007 GS 350 AWD for me. If I didn't need the AWD, I'd probably get the 2007 GS 460. I can't wait for my 2007 GS 350 AWD! Four more months to go!

MODERATOR EDIT:

Jack, please PM me first and await a reply if you ever feel the need to post this type of message on our forum again.

This type of stuff destroys the sense of community we try to foster on ClubLexus and is nothing but a rude personal attack.

If this car is for you mike, I would look at your modding taste's and look into the future. If you plan on keeping it for a while. If the mods on your white car would be similar to your new ride? Basically I would look at price point, and markdowns. The 06 gs430 will be sold at major discounts once the 350 comes out. Good luck.

If one can be somewhat patient and not have to jump on the GS350 the second it comes out, certainly the price will come down. It might take 6 months or so but you can be saving thousands of dollars. I will never pay MSRP again and I am planning on getting the 07GS 350. Remember that the GS300 was never red hot even at the get go! If it takes longer, I'll go for the 2008. Nothng stays the same. I'm also pretty patient. Gives me something to look forward to.

for sure the gs350. the v8 on the gs430 is nice, but it's such an old engine, boring, and it's not even close to competitive to a lot of engines out there. so dated. it's simply the reason why i told everyone not to get the gs430 and wait for gs460. the gs350 can easily go around the gs430

!
Where does the 200 lb weight savings come from? Is it just the motor? Sounds like a lot of reduction for two less cylinders.

If the cars weighed the same, the old 430 should have the edge in performance and low end grunt, cause the torque rules. In the end, the 350 is still the favored powerplant for the future. The power they are achieving out of a smaller engine displacement is impressive.

I will sadly miss the V8 rumble though. The v6 will never sound as good as the v8.

good point, i think i asked this before but no one answered. is the new 3.5l v6 cast iron or aluminum block? if it's aluminum, maybe thats where the weight saving is from (the v8 is aluminum as well).

the 430 has more tq, but man having driven the is350, the 430 has no chance against it. my only question is from freeway speed (60-120mph), i am not sure which one is faster, the 350 or the 430. again no one can answer that yet i guess that's probably what i care more about as well

I don't understand why the HP is practically the same... From a afortability standpoint I think i would go 350... This is going to be the hybrid model correct? Thanks

The is350 kicks butt. The TQ of the 430 in a GS, won't make up for the lighter weight of the IS. The power to weight of the IS should be better, though I don't have the specs in front of me to verify that.

Again, put the 350 in almost the same weight of vehicle (GS body style) and I think the old 430 might still have the edge.

Hey Henry, you forgot to tell me

Last summer, the rumors of the GS460 were enough to convince me to lease for the first time. Now with the 450H and the LS460 around the corner, I don't know what I'll decide next summer.

But sticking to the poll, tough choice. Engine wise, old or not, the V8 in the 430 is so sweet. But the new gen 5 nav display would likely be enough to sway me to the 350, especially if the power difference is negligible.

I wonder what Lexus plans are for the GS430. If the GS460 is supposed to be released in Spring '07, will there be a '07 GS430? If so, will there just be a mid-year engine change?
