Default Question about Gas Tank

So i filled up my GS300 2006 AWD for the first time today -- the computer said "Rang Approx" 20 miles and the Yellow low light indicator was on...

When I filled up the tank, it only filled up 15.246 gallons.....My understanding is the tank is 18.7Gallons, a difference of 3.454 (~3.5Gallons).
The Car Computer's readout sys: the range approx is 20 miles, so let's assume that my gas milage is 20MPG -- so thats another 1gallon taken off the difference.

But what happened to the other 2.5 Gallons? Is the car's computer that inaccurate????

I think the computer is just over conservative.

i think it depends on the weather...if it is hot...the gas expands so it fills the tank more...if it is cold...i think you can put a lot more gas in the tank...heh...oh...just wondering does the 3GS tell you how many miles left you can drive b4 your car really runs out of gas? i used to drive bmw's and the computer should show how many more miles you could drive after the light went on...and was wondering if the new GS has this feature since my RX400h doesn't...

Yes it does. I don't know how accurate it is, but it's in the onboard computer in front of the steering wheel...

I'm only on my second fill up, but on my last tank, I thought I would try to see how far I could go without running out of gas. I went about another 20 miles, after it said I had a 0 mile range. That was about all I was willing to risk it, and when I went to fill up, I was able to put 16.6 gallons in it, which means I still had 2.1 gallons to go. So, as far as I can tell, once the light goes on and it reads 0 mile range, you probably have about 3 gallons left.
