Autoweek - M45 vs GS430
Just received the August 15th issue... last paragraph summary:
"So yes, the Infiniti is easily the winner here. Buyers who are never going to push their luxury sedans as hard as we do, and who like the greater isolation and the extra brake and steering assist of the Lexus, might disagree. While it may not be as sophisticated and road-course smooth as a BMW 5 Series or even an Audi A6, the Infiniti M45 is easily the Japanese champion in this class. Sayonara, Lexus."
We've had lots of posts on this issue before but I have to say, I really love my GS430; styling, comfort, performance, mileage, etc. Different strokes for different folks.

Here we go again. If you like Lexus better you will pick the GS and vice versa with the M45 . I will also say that I never agree with Autoweek.
There reviews are biased in every way

Hehe interesting summary. Typographical error to boot.

YAY
Lets go through this again!
My brilliant deduction: Car mags generally do not like Lexus by their judging techniques.
The definition of "superior" in terms of cars is dependant on point of reference.
Speed...
Looks...
Price...
Luxury...
Reliability...
Combining all of these factors is difficult because which factors are more important to different people can change results dramatically.
Thats why, when I am looking for information about Lexus, I only look at certain places:
ClubLexus
Lexus.com
Lexus Magazine
Pursuits
...

i like the overall look of the M but what swayed me from the M and towards the GS is really the luxury and *cough* reliability (1500 miles and in for cam position sensor). Also, I'm just not crazy about the way infiniti did the interior layout of the car.

I re-read the article again and the principle complaint seems to be the electronic intrusion mentioned in all the comparisons/tests we've seen. I personally like the additional control for real world roads.

As much as i like Lexus, they are not living up to their potential........EVERY SINGLE luxury brand, even Acura, offers a SPORTS Package. Why cant Lexus offer it??
They are getting KILLED in these reviews, which means the stigma that Lexus builds BORING cars will continue. IMO Lexus has a great opportunity to be the premier luxury brand division but they are way too conservative. Is it that big of a risk to offer a sports package that has stiffer suspension, larger wheels, and more FUN to drive on a SPORTS sedan??????
As much as i hate how the M45 looks, the package/options on that car are amazing as well as its performance. If it wasnt for the ugly styling, it would def be the replacement for my GS.

everybody have their own personal taste, i work for nissan/infinit, i pick the gs because of the ride and more luxury. infiniti is sports luxury, the m was nice when it first came out but when i look at the interior is nasty design, have to walk away from it

Yeah, I just received the new Autoweek yesterday. Read the article and staff thrashed the new GS mainly because of the traction control. Even when you turn it off, it reactivates itself again after reaching 30-35mph. It had weaker braking power as well.
But a lexus is a lexus and after 3 years or so when they come back in the used car market the lexus will hold it value far better than the M45.
Infinity just can not hold its value over time. I would consider the M45 as a used vehicle if the price is right in 3 years and if gas prices were at a normal level.
I prefer the look of the new GS but prefer the driving dynamics of the M45. To many technical gizmos in the new GS as the autoweek staff referred to as "Alpha-Bits cereal"

Yes, I agree they should have a sports package with sportier suspension & electronics nanny that can be turned off when they upgrade to GS350/460. They aren't going to sell many of those, but they need a boost to the sporty image. Otherwise, they should just shut up about being a real competitor to the 5 series.
