I was just on the lexus web site and priced out a fully loaded GS430 at 62,829. How do you all feel about that price? Imho, I think lexus went completely goofy on this. At that price, one can get a well equiped LS430 - larger car and better ride, or a C55 AMG / BMW M3 smaller cars but both will kick the snot out of the gs430

Well to be fair the LS430, C55AMG and BMW M3 may cost about the same price range, but they are totally different vehicles for different demographics. Fully loaded GS or not, prices of any car will change over time. Remember when the 1990 LS400 started w/an MSRP of $35k back in 1989? No one ever would have thought the price would nearly double 15 years later. Times do change, and so do prices of vehicles. Prices unfortunately inflate and cost of living rises with it. The new GS430 fully loaded has alot of value added items and features that set it apart from it's direct competition including the LS430.

As has been pointed out on another thread, the market will set the eventual price. MSRP is just that, "suggested".

Right now Lexus will certainly get list; in a year, who knows?

Exactly, market demand will dictate the prices that dealerships will sell the new GS' at.

I also remember when the original 1st gen GS300 toped out at over 50k in 97. At that price, sales
started to go down unitl lexus released the 2nd gen gs. You also mention the new gs has features that set it apart from it's direct competition including the LS430. What features are there on the gs that can not be had on the LS?

You fail to mention in the mid 90s, there were threats to put tariffs on imported Japanese goods to the United States. The Yen was much stronger than the Dollar during this time, causing prices of Japanese goods to rise.

Lets see, VIDM, Push Start, ML DVD Video/Audio, Intuitive Park Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (LS has the older Dynamic Laser System) are just a few that come to mind.

Sure these features are not on the LS now, but will eventually make it's way to it. Two totally different vehicles for two totally different demographics. When the new LS rolls out, don't be surprised to see it tip the $70k mark.

In spite of the yen, Lexus found a way to release a 2nd gen that was far better in every way to the 1st gen and a cost of about 8k less. Now the 3rd gen comes along, and yes its is better than the 2nd gen with the addition of VIDM, ML DVD Video/Audio, Intuitive Park Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and PCS, but is it 10k better when compared to the outgoing 05GS430? Imho, I think not. Don't get me wrong, I really like the new GS. What I don't like is the price. It will be interesting to see what kind of discounts will be available once the initial "gota have it" demand is satisified.

lol, are we now bashing GS because it has some of the most advanced systems on the planet? You dont have to order PCS you know... Nor should it be compared with small sedans like C class or 3 series, thats what next IS is for...

I went to Lexus.com for our area (Portland, OR) and final price ranged from $58,410 to $58,604 for the fully loaded GS430. The PCS was not listed, only 3 flavors of the full package, with or without a spare for the run flats, with/without the accessory package. No wheels. Of course in our area there's no sales tax and Licensing is only $60 for 3 years.

(but we can't pump our own gas .... )

Remember the 2nd gen RX; this is the most popular vehicle in the Lexus lineup (as measured by sales volume). And there was a great deal of pent up demand when the 330 was released.

6 months later, 10% off sticker was common. As wonderful as the GS is and as much as we love it, remember that it's not a huge seller for Lexus (at least, not the 430). So Lexus will either have to limit import to drag out the demand or watch the margins fall as supply catches up. Either way, demand will satisfied sooner or later and then we can dicker on the sticker!!!!

I'm not bashing the car, just the price. But if u feel all those options are worth the 63k price, go for it..

In Canada, loaded 06 GS430 is C$88K, definitely approaching loaded SC430 territory, which is C$91K.

Yeah, that's what is bugging me too. I am about to pay MORE for the new GS than I did for a well-negotiated 2004 SC430. Sure there's a lot more features now in the GS, but it makes me cringe to think that I am about to pay more for the GS than for the amazing hardtop convertible SC. I'm sure it's worth it overall, but man, I just can't believe the disparity . . . I may just have to wait, out of principle!

I love the GS - had 2 second gens - 98 and 01 GS430's - and have been eagerly anticipating the new one, but I can't help to wonder . . . will it make me happier to :

(1) be one of the early birds to have the new GS on the road - at MSRP ...or...
(2) wait 6-12 months and save thousands off MSRP
