Default Broken Motor Mount / Clunking when Braking

Hey guys -

I read some previous threads about clunking noise when braking...it turned out to be broken motor mounts.

Well, it happend to me last night.... I actually felt a "clunk" on the brake pedal (if that makes any sense)....I was in a mall parking lot.....it was raining, and I was moving at about 10 mph....then I braked somewhat hard cuz the driver in front of me slammed on his brakes. Anyways, the "clunk" feel felt and sounded like something fell off my car....luckily it only happened once....seems ok this morning...no "cluinking" today.

Im taking the car for in to be inspected....what should I have them look for....other than the brake pads and motor mount?

Ummm...i don't think so.

I was going forward for some time....not reverse and forward as the Service Bulletin stated. Also, there's no clicking noise.

It was definitely a "clunk" that was heard and felt thru the brake pedal.

Thanks though.

Pete

Cool

I have the similiar sound when I brake and turn at the same time (like entering a parking entrance) there will be two short but loud clunking sound at the front.

I only notice it several weeks later after the installation of the Daizen Polyurethane Bushings. On my next schedule service I am going to have them check it out further.

Let me know what your service department finds out. I have a feeling it is the bushings.

PHML:

Have it checked out, but it sounds like your ABS working from the clunk you felt in the brake pedal, while driving on wet pavement. The motor mount clunk is under engine load change or when you press gas pedal with the cark in park.

Good luck

Salim -

You hit it right on the nose. The service rep says it was probably the ABS doing its job.... Nothing wrong with mounts and brake system. Whewwww (sigh of relief)....Thank goodness!!

Chu -

I originally had the just the Daizen bushings on OEM sways...no problems. When upgraded to the entire Daizen sway set....still no problems.....I dont think it's your bushings. You better go check it out.

Thanks Pete:

I going to have them check it out on my next oil change in the next few weeks. Maybe they install the bushing improperly.

Boy that was a old thread. The problem was with the front calipers. Dealer replaced both front calipers.

did you hear the noise when turning only (requires lots of turning steering wheel)?

Front Brake Calipers. Braking and turning at the same time will cause the clunking/popping sound. After installation of new calipers there is no more sound.

last time i went to the dealer and was able to show/imitate the noise from the front left side and they replaced the steering rack bushing...noise went away and it came back again

I mentioned about the caliper issue possibility and they said that they won't replace it unless they know if the calipers cause the problem (could not imitate the noise when I was at the dealer second time)
however it's always there each time I park in my office parking lot

any thoughts?

I have the same pop/click sound and I don't know how to duplicate that sound when approaching dealer. So, it happens when turn and brake, right? Let me give it a try.
