Default What's it worth? 2002 Gs430, 218k miles

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to purchase my first Lexus as a nice alternative daily commuter for rush hour. But my budget is quite limited, but I do have other vehicles too right now.

I came across a local 2002 gs430, with 218,000 on it. Body and interior seem nice, no rust. I know the engines are supposed to be great in these, but too many miles to throw any money at?

What do you think I should offer for this? He's asking $2700

Thanks!

I just helped my brother-in-law purchase a 1998 GS300 with 282,000 miles for $3k, so I would say you're in the ballpark. Keep in mind we were looking (and found) a one-owner car with all maintenance up-to-date. The timing belt, fuel pump and all other major work was done at the Lexus dealer. Interior was in great shape, too.

Depending on a condition its in mechanically. I bet you can also knock the price down as well.

To me if it is a nice car the price is good. I paid more for one with more miles and have regretted it. Great cars. However, it is due for 2nd timing belt change. Mine now has 322000, so there should be plenty of miles left.

If you find one like this for that price...buy it and don't look back.

Given Unknown conditions of the car except miles Cars worth like around $1900-ish. I would offer him $2K which is very fair given the mileage.. If he doesn't bite, offer again $2300.. but $2400 Max..

If you look at NADA there is a wide variation in value based on condition. Makes sense as paint, interior work, and deferred maintenance quickly can add up to more than $2500. If a G2 GS430 is what you want, and they are awesome cars, paying extra to get the best example is smart. These cars were $50,000 + new, even a 200,000 mile one in great shape has lots of good miles left. Find one that is clean inside and out, be prepared to catch-up on maintenance, and enjoy. Don't walk away from a really good example over a few hundred bucks. Just make sure it is a good one.

I also use NADA but only for mint low mileage cars because NADA is the high side of Retail. If that cars looks clean well maintained one-owner then sure go for the higher value but most often prices reflect the "True market Value"..

NADA is fairly accurate if the car is in perfect shape. I just sold a 2004 GS430 with Nav/Lev and 90k miles for 8k which is right at NADA trade in Value for clean.

Any news on your purchase OP?
