Default Questions on cleared taillights

I was having a great weekend until I backed into the side door of my neighbor's car that I didn't see on a dark street.

Even though the neighbor's car sustained a pretty big scratch a foot wide and the height of my bumper, luckily, he said not to worry about it so I was very happy about that.

The corner of my bumper sustained some creases and wrinkles in which I can live with but my tail-light cracked in half which will require replacement. I was thinking I have the option of just replacing the passenger rear tail-light or go with a clear led style which I like a lot, so I have a few questions. Has anyone purchased any of the cleared LED style tail-lights off of ebay? Here's a couple I was looking at.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-99-00-01-...pXtWGC&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-98-2005-...JYDXyw&vxp=mtr

Can I go with just the 2 outer LED taillights and not get the inner 2 LED taillights? If going with LED, any issues with the light error warning on the dash?

Thanks!

If you go LED, at all, I would recommend the Braga style sets.
The 1st set you linked has no better, if not worse output than OEM. I highly doubt the second and third set are any better. I would bet they are even worse.

Also, to answer your other question, the tail light warning lamp in the dash is finicky. I have one of the Braga style sets and it trips the light.

What are your goals, in order? Outer looks, price, light output?

These are more expensive, but better output and you get all 4.

Thanks for the response.

My goal is price, style then light output. Price is relative to style though i.e. I have a limit to the price but the style have to match my taste. If the cleared style is out of my price range then I'll just go OEM and replace just the 1 light.

I'm not a big fan of the style in the link. I like this set better.

I just bought the DEPO ones off Amazon. Will be installing them on my 98 GS400 this weekend without the resistors that were included unless someone can give a good reason as to why I should? I believe these overheat and are not necessary, correct? If I get the dash light, I'll just pull the bulb from the cluster.

I think the resistors is to keep the current level the same in the wiring so the dash light doesn't turn on. How much did you pay on Amazon?

Regular Light bulbs has a natural resistance drawing current. Resistor packs create such draw of current by bridging the positive and negative of the light circuit.
When you install the resistors, none of your tail lights will show up as warnings even if they burned out.
That is until your resistor packs begin to fail. Then it will start displaying light bulb out warnings during various situations (braking, light on, etc.)
I chose not to install mine as they were causing a pop to my stereo everytime I step on the brakes.

I paid $190 shipped for mine. The DEPO ones are basically the Insurance ones just rebranded and way cheaper.

TW99GS300 - I'll do what you did and just not install the resistors. I've heard of them overheating and don't want a fire to start back there lol.

$190 shipped isn't bad. I decided to go stock OEM, I don't know how long i'm planning to keep my GS. I have my eye set on the '15+ GS350 in a year or so, like everyone else I'm waiting for Lex to drop the price of them by $15K.
