Default LEDS and more LED problems!

Whats up CL!

Have any of you had trouble installing the driver's side parking light (194)? My friend had a few 194 LED's ( http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/194Canbus-3x2323-W ) left over so we decided to install them into my headlights. The passenger side was no problem turn clockwise, pull out light bulb socket, install new LED, turn back counter clockwise until it locks into place. The drivers side was a PITA and I'm not even sure if we got it in correctly. The problem I'm having is that when I turn the bulb counter clock wise to lock it back into the socket instead of locking it unlocks the socket. Am I doing something wrong here? Does it matter that the LED's are canbus? I told my buddy my car doesn't require a canbus bulb but he said it shouldn't matter that it is canbus.

We also tried to install these same LED's into my license plate light but they wouldn't fit! The bottom portion of the LED was too wide near the center so it wouldn't snap into place. Anyone know if this bulb will work? http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/194LED-6x5630

I had the same problem with the driver's side parking light socket. I gave up and had a shop do it when I was having other things fixed on the car.

As for the LED bulbs for the license plate, I went with very short LED bulbs to avoid any clearance problems. Each one has six LEDs that are practically flush with the end of the plastic socket, so to compare with the example you linked, it didn't have the metal heatsink on top and wasn't any longer than the end of the colored plastic base.

I probably should have asked the guy how he was able to do it, but I was just glad someone got it to fit and left it at that.

Yes, that bulb has the same form factor as the ones I used. I'm sure you could fit in something a little bit longer, but I didn't measure the depth of the opening from where the bulb screws in to the clear lens cover. The only problem with these shorter bulbs is that the LEDs on them aren't as bright as some of the bigger bulbs that also aim light around the sides.

Instead of going aftermarket HID.. has anyone tried aftermarket headlight LED lights?

I was ddm today picking up my license plate bulbs and he recommended the LED kit over the HID kit.. has anyone tried this type of kit before?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5000K-9006-9...NWTLrw&vxp=mtr

I have used aftermarket LED 9006s in the lows in my Camry (WAY to much light thrown around) and fogs in the GS.
I have not compared the LEDs to 55watt HID or factory incandescent.

I also have(had) LED 9005s as highs in both. One pair would ignite at low voltage, so the DRLs worked.
The second is far brighter, but does not. The pattern is *** no matter what is in the Camry. It is better in the GS but the 3 directional LED design makes most of the output go straight up a wall, so to speak.

AFA the running lights, I found the them much easier to grab with the high and low beam bulbs and harnesses out and out of the way.

I never found a 5000k LED to match the factory HIDs. I just bought a pair of 6000k HID bulbs. There are plenty of 6000k 194s out there. Even sylvania makes one. It was a pretty good match.

We sell LED headlight kits, but I still suggest HID for the best possible BEAM pattern and light output.

These pics do a really nice job comparing HID vs LED:

194 - The Philips 194 LED bulbs are still our "go-to" bulb. Very reasonably priced, great light output, and work like a charm!!

Hey Steve out of coincidence I was just on your website checking out the different kits.. is there a noticeable difference between your Xtreme kit and volt kit? Also my concern is blinding on coming traffic, I was thinking of going with your volt kit and adjusting my headlights lower but I'm having second thoughts.. any suggestions?

Hi,

There is no "noticeable" difference between the 2 HID kits. The main difference between the 2 HID kits (other then the Xtreme having an extra year warranty) is that the Xtreme ballasts have a lower starting draw. The lower starting draw comes in handy if your vehicle is equipped with auto headlights, which require your headlights to turn on as your vehicle is starting -- assuming the sensor activates the lights.

I would suggest going with 4300k or 5000k max if you're concerned about oncoming traffic.

Steve
