Well you see the problem thats good... What "I" did was wrapped a LOT of black electrical tape around the circled part until it was the same thickness as the width of that white lip on the factory handle. Measure the width of the oem one and wrap the chrome one the same thickness. Its been like 10 years since I did it, so cant remember the ingenuity I used, but use your noggin and find a way for it to function the same way as the oem one. I vaguely remember adding a piece of plastic and wrapping it with tape to hold it in position (sounds ghetto, so not sure if that was my final fix LoL) I dont rig stuff, just cant remember how I did it. Is it possible to swap the shafts? That seams like something I would do had it been possible. I do, however, remember it being a batch to make a fix.

Check the invention you made, it may be slightly too big causing the mechanism to hold the latch open by a fraction of a cm, just enough for the mechanism to no be able to move. I do believe I had the same problem. I do remember having to shrink my concoction to work properly.
