Default 2nd Gen IS steering wheel retrofit

Check it out! Fitted my SC'd GS400 with a 2nd Gen IS steering wheel!

The paddle shifters give it a MUCH more sportier feel over the up/down buttons. The wheel is slightly smaller but thicker; better feel in my opinion. Also it's great that the steering wheel controls are setup to work with my aftermarket double DIN nav once I get that installed.
Big props to my friend Pornaddict! He kicked this off on his car first and helped me out; he sourced everything as well for me. Everything works as it should (airbag, paddles, stereo controls etc).
might have to do this, so is your airbag still functional? What is the process and the price?

Yes, still functional...no dash lights. The price for this mod could range from $280-$400 in parts.

My friend sourced the following for me:
Good cond used IS wheel w/o airbag $180
Refurbished steering wheel cover (center piece) w/airbag $100

Each item could wind up being a bit more expensive. The only swap over is the airbag detonator from the old GS wheel.

You have a GS400 right? Was you original airbag single stage? I would assume the IS bag was two stage like the 01+ 2nd gen GS bags. Nice work, wonder what an ISF wheel would like like.

Yes, it's a GS400 with single stage airbag. It doesn't matter that the IS is a two stage because I used the air bag detonator from my GS and put it into the IS wheel in front of its air bag, the bracket/bolt holes line up. It was a plug n play. There had to be some other wiring to do though for the paddle shifters. My friend did all the wiring on the wheel at his house; Nothing was done at my house except for the detonator swap, install and plug in.

The ISF wheel is cool but I think that might look too modern IMO for the 2nd gen GS.

Definitely gonna do this eventually, steering controls ftw. Do you know if it's compatible with a factory navi/radio ?

Damn beat me to it..lol Looks nice but I agree with your take on it Roc. looks a bit outta place but still looks good.
Also, you said you're planning to use the radio buttons on the steering wheel. How did you guys get past the clock spring? What interface are you planning to use to link up your radio? I was thinking of ASWC-1 and see if I could make it work. It works great on my wife's RX.

I think it looks good.. not great.
The style seems a bit out of place with the rest of the interior... almost too modern.

But I bet the paddles are much nicer that the buttons.

Good job you two!

Gotcha, I'm surprised that the detonator fits the bag. Good thing you had a 4 sided detonator instead of a 6 sided one like my car originally had. I had to buy a Rav 4 airbag just to get the right detonator for my 01+ bag swap.
