Default GS300 Series 2 Reluctor Ring

It seems that my 1998 GS300 needs a replacement ABS reluctor ring (left-side rear). In the UK this is not a separate Lexus part.

Does anyone know if an aftermarket source for this in the US?

How about something local? (Bourne, Lincolnshire)

Also in the UK

With a couple questions to the seller, you can confirm that it fits your car, it should.

Thanks for your response.

The issue here is that the existing reluctor ring is corroded and bringing on the ABS at crawling speed. Lexus do not sell the ring separately, only a complete bearing assembly at an unbelievable price.

The e-Bay ad is for a Series 1 which I believe has a different tooth count - same for other e-Bay UK and US ads.. The guy in Lincolnshire, I think has made these previously and they work - I have an e-mail to him and hope for an early response.

There cars are made to aircraft standards but even 18 year old aeroplanes need replacement of worn-out parts occasionally.

I was hoping that someone may have been faced with the same issue and has found a solution.

I am delighted to report a happy ending.

I spoke with Reluctorrings here in the UK and they assured me that their product is suitable for my car. They were right and the ABS issue is now fixed.

They also told me that the rings on the front and rear are the same and are compatible with a Series 1 GS as well as a Series 2. Now it gets interesting. Lexus UK supply a replacement ring for the front but not the rear - if the rear one is shot they say you need a complete bearing assembly at an eye-watering price, if indeed it is still available.

I would estimate Reluctorrings price at $ 100 including shipping and duties. Not trivial but far less than any alternatives which I have found either side of the pond, unless of course you get a Lexus front one and it is indeed suitable for the rear.

Here's a picture of my worn-out one

Just a guess, but maybe Lexus only supplies the complete assembly because if the ring goes bad, something else goes out with it or wears at a similar pace? Kinda like if you have to replace a spark plug or wires, its better to replace them all.

Maybe, who knows?

I wanted to avoid buying a $ 1,500 part to keep my $ 1,000 car running a bit longer. My baby is running great now!

Does anyone know for certain whether the rear and front reluctor rings on a Series 2 (1998) GS300 are identical? There seem to be opposing expert views.

My problem with the ABS coming on occasionally when reaching a standstill has come back. I suspect the other side (rear right) as the rear left got fixed. If it checks out that a front ring is failing I need to be prepared.

the reluctor rings are not identical at all, i just did all 4 wheel bearings.
they both have 48 teeth, yes, but different sizes altogether
front ones are inside the knuckle

Were you able to replace the reluctor ring without it failing, curious because I have to do mine soon and was planing on replacing the entire shaft.

Did the rings need to be pressed on? I have read through the DIY guide for replacing them in which the guy used epoxy and they failed shorty after.

the rings i used are new, correct size and are pressed on, not using a press, just pushed/tapped on, i used an outer cv i had that was cut off that slipped over the gs outer cv and pressed on the whole ring, and tapped it on with a hammer....is a hammer a cordless press, no? lol

Did you get the ring of Ebay or that reluctorrings site? Has anyone else had this success? It seems there are numerous threads of this issue and an overwhelming number of them state you have to replace the whole rear axle. I feel if it was as simple as buying a new ring and tapping it on would be a no brainer. Any idea on longevity?
