How many miles do you get in your GS400 - hard drivers (combination of some highway and city driving)?

I am referring to when the "amber gas fill up tank" first lights up.

for normal driving, if i'm really conservative with the gas pedal, i can get up to 340 miles per tank.

now when i GUN it, i usually get 250-260 miles per tank when the light comes on.

About 300-350. Usually on the side closer to 300. But this is with a TC, 3.76 LSD, and 17s, so my RPMs are higher than most at any given speed. Do I care? Heck no.

Hmmm..... you guys are getting amazing mileage (especially you Dex). This week I drove very hard (and I don't have the TC, LSD that you have) and I only got 235 miles. I usually get about 280 miles when I don't drive aggressively.

I wonder if something is wrong with my car? I just had the 32k service done. (although that was just some fluid replacements).

Minor factors that may contribute, but doubtful:
  • 5W-30 oil
  • SRT intake & ECU
  • Borlas ---> APEXi WS exhaust
  • until recently, the weather was still on teh coolish side here in NC
  • I don't thrash my car often

I probably avg closer to 300.

miles per tank is terribly inaccurate. use miles per gallon. i get 18mpg with lots of city and spirited driving.

In many states, they use a different blend of gas in the winter. This reduces mileage. Not so sure about CA however.

Also, the colder the weather, the better the car performs. Makes you want to get on it more.

I'm lucky to get 300 miles per tank in city/highway driving. Right now on all city I'm averaging 14.7 mpg. Your mileage sounds correct. The others are lying about theirs just trying to make you feel bad

Seriously, my best ever was 340 and that was almost all highway.

No, really. When I first purchased my GS4, I could squeeze out about 400 from one tank. Then, I startred to push it.

Default gas milage

i was just wondering if i was alone with my gas mileage. i just recently got a99 gs400. i love to floor it, i just love getting shoved back in the seat. i do it every chance i get. this car has so much power it almost seems limitless. my first trip to the gas station i'd gone 47 miles and used 4.5 gallons. the next time was 55 miles and 5 gallons. i backed off a little bit and today at 79 miles i put in 4.7. so i'm seeing 10-16 around town and we have lots of traffic. havent got to go out on freeway yet , i'm guessing that cruising will up the gas mileage quite a bit. oh i only filled up so often because i was shocked at how fast the gauge was going down it made me curious what my mpg was. how many gallons does the tank hold? good thread hameed

3dog, I got my 99 GS400 5 months ago and I find it very hard to drive it like a grandpa . The thrust of that V8 is so intoxicatinng and I can't get enough of it - so my mileage is usually not good.

I Drive very aggressively about half the time, and I drive nicely the other half. Pretty reliably the fuel light has come on between 285 - 325 miles to the tank. The furthest I have ever dared go was 367 on a tank and I was only able to put in 18 gallons.

3dog: to answer your question the Lexus GS second gen cars have a 19.8 gallon fuel capacity. However, I have heard that the fuel pump is cooled by the gas, and that is why the light comes on so quick. It wouldn't be a good idea to run it empty as the pump may overheat and then BOOM!!! Don't know if it would really get to hot, but that is what I have heard. BUt the tank IS 19.8 gallons.

I don't recall how many miles per tank but I always calculate my gas milage and the worst I've ever gotten is 20 while the best I've ever gotten is 23.5

If I ran until empty (the tank is 19 gallons according to Lexus), that would be right around 380-450 miles.

Then again I'm pretty easy on my car. I might actually really get on it once per tank, and even that is never up to redline. I'm usually on the throttle to the point where is shifts between 1.5-2.2k RPM during normal acceleration... rarely ever get above that (unless of course I'm cruising on the highway)

With my lead foot and heavy city driving, I get a consistant 300 miles per tank.
