Default What fault code reader?

I would like to buy a fault code reader to check stored codes and change settings in my cars. The one I want to buy is ODB11 and CAN compliant.

The question is will this work with my '98 GS300 or do I need to buy something else?

What's the Toyota model number on your ecu? (ecu label is on the side if you slide it up out of the ecu box) I ask because you may have a EOBD version since your in UK. Which although it is based on OBDII codes you would need a regionalized reader for it.

A MINI-VCI cable paired with Techstream will read everything on your car. The 2GS does not use the CAN-BUS subsystem, but Techstream allows connection to all the additional body ecu's on the cars multiplex system and also access the c-best options.

Otherwise the Launch C-Readers claim to Read OBD, JOBD, and EOBD. I have tried a Launch X431 and it did NOT recognize the JOBD ecu.

If your car is in fact EOBD then any OBD reader sold in your local retail stores would read all your OBDII codes. But you'll need VCI/Techstream to access the (canbus-like) Body ecu's and C-Best options.

Something like the TorquePro might possibly connect to EOBD but I'm not sure, since some of the versions have been said to be able access JOBD.
