I have a 1998 GS400. Parents bought the car brand new and up until 2009 it haad roughly 60k miles on it. They gave me the car to go to college and I drove around for a year and 10k miles. I switched out the balljoints for new OEM ones in 2010 with 70k miles. The car now has 133k miles and I JUST did a complete front suspension overhaul with all MOOG parts.

I probably could have put another 50k miles on each set of OEM balljoints, but the first set was already 11 years old and then the second had 60k miles on them. They were cheap so I just did them while I was down there. Now my car will last another 20 years and I plan on keeping her for that long!

Luckily mine snapped while taking off slowly from a stop sign. I could only imagine what would've happened at 75 mph. No joke. Order moog parts from rock auto and replace them. Go to autozone and get a tie rod/ball joint remover and get er done. If you're not sure it's been done, quit driving until you have done it. It's gonna happen. You just don't know when.

I just replaced my daughters last week with OEM. Just in time because as I was inspecting the old ones they had a tear in the boot that you couldn't see at first glance. Replaced outer tie rods as well.

Ughh I just picked up my third GS and I have to do this. I'm just wondering how the Moog part compares to the OEM. After reading several threads there's no confirmed answer as to which is the better route. I know someone who replaced it with moog and had it fail 2 years later.

thanks!!! just ordered a set of Moogs for the front and used the RockAuto discount... I'm at 120k miles on the OEM pair...

last night pulling into my driveway when the front wheels hit the dip while turning in, i could hear the rattling... this is cheap insurance to ensure my family and others on the road are safe..

There are a lot of suspension parts besides the ball-joints that can cause your rattle.

Ya i just ordered mine, along with steering rack bushings and upper balljoints, I have 200k and haven't seen any record of ever being changed. They have prob been replaced I would hope around 100k but I bought car at 190k so should have them changed with Moog next weekend.
