How much
Shopping for a 98-00 GS400. Ive looked at 3 so far in person and havent found much. They seem to be over pricedfor the shape they're in. Thinking possibly my expectations are high.....What type of condition and mileage should I expect for 3k-4k for a GS400? Ex: seen a 99 gs400 gold 160k, had navi, bad sunroof, broken wing, 6/10 interior, can tell had fender bender, deep scratches on paint, ext 4/10 in general, some whell well rust, in dash tv, ran great tho....asking 3200

With that price you won't find too many in that good of shape, I would guess $5-6k for a good one. Just keep looking, they really are a case by case basis. Some have 250k miles and are in much better shape than those with 150k miles.

Your not gonna find anything decent for that price, their gonna have problems... Save up for something better if u can find it, these cars are very hard to find not molested and beat up unfortunately, that's why u don't see too many for sale that are in great shape, cause no one wants to sell them

Have faith it is possible to get one at your budget. I think you might have missed out on mine which I sold over 2 years ago for $7200 but then reappeared at a dealership for $4500. I don't see it as active inventory any longer. But you can call to confirm, It would be worth the trip imo.
I threw a lot of new parts on her since I thought I was going to keep her forever. Everything was great except nearly all the door locks didn't work.

Be patient and continue to save. It will take time to find a V8. Stay away from ones with the old Nav system.

The GS400 is the very lively car of the bunch. Direct mechanical throttle, no electronic lag. But obviously the Fast n Furious crowd does like these so they are going to be in average to below average shape, after being modded.
But you have to remember, you're going to be in a very, very narrow subset of the used car market here. If you want a GS, you're going to get advice from a Lexus GS owners forum that says they're this, that and the other.
Out in the larger market it's just another car, GS300, GS400, GS430 - used car. 15 years old, rwd. large, heavy - interesting, fun to drive etc. Really depends on what a person wants.

I have a 99 GS400 with 107k in near mint condition. New starter, lbj, caster arms, timing belt, water pump, all new motor mounts and tranny mount. Tanabe cat back, K&N intake. Stock NAV w Lexus Center console cell phone. Brand new BILSTEIN HD w Swift Springs. 17" BBS LM w Michelan Pilot Sport. Everything works. I'd part with it for $10k
