Default Just bought a gs with a couple issues..

Hey guys my names Alex and I'm new to the forum, I just bought a 1998 gs400 with 164,000 miles on it. The car is in great condition in and out. It's full package I guess with the navi and everything. I got the car for a great price but it does have some issues. When I bought it I knew it needed motor mounts, other than that the car had no cel on and drove flawless. 2 days after buying it the check engine lights turn on and I'm like hmmm so I take t home park it and I was going to plug it in the next day to check the codes as I'm walking to the car I notice it's leaking coolant and oil here are some pictures if any of y'all have gone through the same problem or know exactly what's wrong. I will be plugging get it in to get the codes tommorow and I'll post them up too. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The red stuff looks like transmission or power steering fluid. Clean it all up and then check it regularly to see if you can pinpoint where it coming from.

You say leaking coolant and oil. Is it 2 different leaks, or an oil/coolant mixture? Overheating isnt surprising if you have a coolant leak, of course depending on its cause and location.

If the CEL light came on a few days later, sadly it sounds like the owner may have cleared the codes before selling it to say, "hey look, no CEL light".

You must post codes before any real answers can be given or else nothing but wasted time and guesses will appear. Scan it and post it

Perhaps both leaks aren't related, i would say parts and labor under 300$ should get them fixed, a new denso radiator can be had for under 80$

The key to fluid leaks is you want to find the source and have it repaired asap, so it doesn't cause other issues. Most of the leaks I've had on my GS400 have been minor in nature.

I've had an oil leak related to the valve cover gaskets replaced at around 180k, so check for that. Also, the power steering line from the reservoir is prone to leak as well - I've fixed mine twice. If that's the case, make sure you catch that before it takes our your alternator. It's in a bad location and before I caught mine the first time the leak was so bad I needed a power steering pump AND alternator.

Let us know what you find.
