P0305 in 2001 GS430
2001 GS430 185k
Code P0305, blinking CEL; 'VSC' and 'VSC OFF' illuminated. Limped home.
Web search suggested coil or plug for cylinder 5.
Ordered coil and plug just to be safe, should be here tomorrow.
Finger crossed, will update. This is the first failure that affected the utility of the car since purchase in 2004.
UPDATE: $30 coil fixed it.

its usually pretty rare for a toyota or lexus ignition coil take a crap. if the spark plug is in good condition and not covered in fuel (leaking injector). If you replace the coil and it still is misfiring, than get ahold of a multimeter, set it to ohms and unplug the number five injector and put each lead of the multi meter to each pin on the injector. you should see about 12 ohms, if it doesn't read at all (ol) or tests higher than 12 ohms like 1,000 ohms than you need to replace the injector.

Ah forgot, its a GS430. We all know parts for a 300 are more expensive not to mention its an off brand part (per his link that I failed to look at). Sheeit, the same brand and part for the 300 is $78 bucks LoL
OP: For future reference, when you have missfires like this, the best way to find the problem without spending money is to swap the parts around i.e coil, plug or wire (one at a time from the faulty cylinder to another) then clear the codes. When the code comes back on and shows a different cylinder, then you know that the part you swapped is the culprit
