Default New CAT but check engine and CVS lights appear

I have a 2003 GS 300 with 238K miles and it had been running well. Last Friday evening my dashboard lite up with check engine and CVS lights. I checked the forum reviews for ideas and eventually took the car to Auto Zone to check the codes. I had a P0240. I took the car then to the Lexus dealership and was advised I needed a new CAT. I asked could it be my 02 sensors or exhaust leak but they insisted it was the CAT. At the tune of $2200 I needed to think on it, unfortunately cars and mechanics I don't have many options or resources. I took the car back on Monday paid the $2K and four days later the check engine and CVS lights are back on. I am taking the car back on Monday but how or what should I be requesting for the dealership to do? I don't believe I should pay any additional $$. How would you address the Lexus dealership?

Sounds like the tech shot gun that diagnosis. I believe on the tech streams, it has a catalyst effiency test. I would stick to my guns on Monday and say "you diagnosed the problem and I gladly did the repair you recommend at $2G worth, what are you gonna do about it?"

Depending on how shady the ASM(service writer) is, he/she may say that you need more repair(use to be one). Stick to the misdiagnosis and you should be good.

Also, if you not fill good with the answer that the services dept. tell you. You can say very "nice" to you adviser; Okay you tech misdiagnosis my car or code and I paid that amount of money to make my car run the way it is supposed and know you say that my car need more repair?? Just tell; I have the corporate 1-800 number and I want to report this issue to corporate. Every dealer and services dept. go freak out when a customer say that. And you start walk away. You want to see how this guys respond to you. I'd done before and work for me. Good luck.
