Finally a GS 300 owner, it feels so good!
Well bought yesterday 1998 GS 300 193,000 miles on it. Paid 3000 for it and that included taxes and title so price really got it for close to 2800. so decent price and it is very clean,
Anyway it was a high end dealer loaner car, to be honest I saw a tech driving it at my local sub shop and stopped him and told him I wanted to buy it and day later, it was mine. Anyway with this being a loaner car they said it was pretty well maintained. But if any tech or mechanic do yall keep up with your loaner cars? But I know these cars pretty well so engine looked very clean as with the inside. fresh oil, belt, tires brakes good.
My main issue is the timing belt was last changed at 98k and it has close to 200k so obviously It needs to be replaced very soon, So I have done my research and will prob be doing this with the water pump and everything else that comes in the kit. But really want this to easily hit 300k so what are some suggestions as for maintenance at this high mileage? I have done alot of research and most people really just say if it aint broke don't fix it, and I mean that as for when I do timing belt alot of people like to change everything, but do I really need too? Anyway ill go let me know what yall think
and again Im so glad to be back in a lexus

to go 300k you should consider the condition of all the suspension related parts, the condition of your cooling system, the fluids in the transmission & differential, the PCV valve, air filters, cleanliness of IAC valve, new spark plugs, valve cover gaskets if leaking, fuel filters. If you renew the TB / water pump, since you are in there, you should also replace the crankshaft seal & camshaft seals.
Work yourself out a plan to do some of these over the coming year & that car will last a long time.

With this service should I buy all Toyota parts bc I went to Toyota the other day and for the basic Timing belt kit was over $500, is there an equivalent that is not Toyota? but I got the Toyota Timing belt and cam and crank seals. And water pump, but would it be ok to get the tensoners and other stuff at part store? I want the best parts but just want to make sure I don't buy any garbage.

Aisin TKT-031 Engine Timing Belt Kit with Water Pump - $200
Bando 6PK1930 OEM Quality Serpentine Belt - $17
Beck Arnley 143-0714 Thermostat - $15
Stant 25286 Thermostat Seal - $6
Took it to a shop that charged me $150 labor to throw it all in, IIRC.

You bought a good car! I bought my GS300 some 3 years ago with ~167K. Now I have 225K and car runs beautifully. I would highly recommend to replace the accessory belt tensioner - it is not so difficult to replace - mine tensioner pulley failed at 190K during a 600 mile trip and I had to be towed. Engine overheats as waterpump alternator etc are not running. The tensioner made a slight noise - but warning was only ca. 100 miles before complete failure. I installed an Aristo ABS brake cylinder - mine for chirping. I just replace timing belt myself after I saw saw hairline cracks. Enjoy your GS!
