Default Water Pump and Timing Belt Change Out

I would like to thank the forum for all the information on replacing my water pump and timing belt on my 1999 GS300 with 155k. The write up and questions answered were very helpful. I did the job in one weekend and it all went very smooth. The car is running great, very quiet and I am so happy it is back on the road. Thanks!!

PS I will have the harmonic balancer tool for sale on Ebay later today. Great for removing that pesky crank bolt!

That's why I like this forum.

Did you by chance already replaced the cam and crank seals and the vvti pulley? I did the water pump and timing belt and then the damn seals leaked oil all over my belt and I had to pay for labor twice. Wish I would had done it in one swoop.

I did not replace those seals and the pulley. I should have done more research. What was the mileage on yours when they started to leak? I am going to cross my fingers and hope they are OK for a while. Not a good method to ward off leaking, but it is all back together now!

man 155k on it, you should have done them this time. Mine leaked at around 140k. I would not sell that Schley tool so fast.

Lmao. Sorry to burst your bubble Scott. I noticed your mileage in your signature and that's what caught my eyes along with your age of the vehicle. I had mine replaced all at around 130k.

I'll cross my fingers for you too bro.

Do the cams leak out from the front? I figure the crank does. God it was so clean in there I could eat a meal off it. Now I am going to walk out every morning and look for a puddle. I feel like Ray Donovan looking over my shoulder all the time now. Of course, he kills all his enemies to avoid that!

I just canceled my Ebang ad......

Cam and crank seals usually leak due to a failing crankcase ventilation system and not a fault with the seal. Make sure your PCV system is functioning correctly and save yourself some headache's later.

My vvTi was leaking a little and before I got into the tear down, I was not sure if it was the cam seal or the vvti. I replaced cam and crank seals along with the VVtI. Turns out it was my vvTi leaking.

Thank you for the information. I will look into the PCV system and make sure it is working. Good info!

I had the same issue with at I had the timing belt done and had to come back and do the crank and cam seals along with vvti pulley. The pulley is fairly pricey I was luck because my friends dad worked at the dealership and he did the job on the side.
