Default Finally got a 2000 GS400 but it needs a new gas floater.

The previous owner told me it needs a new gas floater.I wanted to know has anybody had this problem before if so please help. The car ran out of gas before the fuel guage reached empty.

did the fuel light turn on even though the guage didn't show empty? usually its called a fuel sender unit...

I haven't let the gas get that low yet because I'm scared i might run out of gas

this happened on my old Acura Vigor... just do this, carry around a gas can with you... and test if the light still turns on... if it does, you could probably get away with using your trip meter and low gas light to gauge when you need to fill up the gas... if the light doesn't turn on, then you may need to change the fuel sender...

Might look into changing fuel suction filter while you are down there. Search the forum and you will see some DIY and results.

Let the tank run down a bit. Are you handy with automotive DIY? If not, let a pro do this, but if you are, lots of good info on this forum. You can Google it. The whole assembly sits under the back seat on the driver's side. Don't smoke or create sparks if you attempt to look at it. But it's pretty easy to see the floater.

I wouldn't necessarily believe previous owners etc about issues. Sometimes you're buying their problems. If you do this, yes - change out your pump and filters. You'll be doing it again somewhere down the line.
