Default Running rich after replacing parts

I posted this in the ES forum but figure nobody goes in there like us 2GS owners so maybe someone with some common knowledge can shed some light. This is what I posted:

My boy has an 02 ES300 and replaced the following all at once yesterday:

Rear cat converter(intake manifold), power steering pump and valve cover gasket, 2 engine and 1 tranny mount.

Now today he is noticing his car is running really rich and idling high and is burning a lot of gas it says 8 mpg on his trip meter. My question is would replacing all that stuff cause a possibility of the mechanic maybe pinching a line or doing SOMETHING to cause his car to run rich? I was thinking his car was already running rich which is why his cat was clogged and now you can actually feel more it since it's a new cat. Maybe he needs to reset his ECU because the car was running rich to compensate for the bad cat? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

an exhaust leak could also cause the car to run lean, since the o2 sensor might detect too much air, thus leading into regulation error. check the o2 sensor through the obd connection (android app "torque")

He reset the ECU. Now his car is stalling and he can't even stay idled without the car dying out, he has to keep pressing the gas. He thinks this is something normal that happens after you reset the battery but I was trying to tell him it's just showing you the true issue your car has because now it's not running rich to compensate for any problem (which I think is a dirty throttle body since he has never cleaned it and has 140k). He claims this happened to him when he first bought the car also at 80k he changed the battery and the starter and it was stalling out on him a lot until he drove it for a while. I had to convince him this isn't something that is supposed to happen when you reset the battery because he thinks it's normal until it resets. He must have had this problem for the longest.

If you plan to clean the throttle body be VERY careful. I had to replace my throttle motor which is in the front rt side of the throttle body ($350+ labor). Do not attempt to mess with the butterfly inside the throttle body. That is where I messed up. Had to replace ECT thermal switch and ECT thermal sensor. First one is on the radiator drivers side bottom the other one is on the head under intake at no. one cylinder. Better gas mileage and a bit more power.

It seems it was the TPS as he just changed it and all his lights came on he said. He reset the battery the CEL and now it seems normal as it says he's getting 18 mpg. So anyone having this problem it could be the TPS
