Will it fit on the rear: 19x12 49mm with 305-30-19
Hi guys,
I am looking at adding a 19x12 49mm with 305-30-19 to the rear of my 2GS.
I am certain that it will fit just fine to the outside because that size is identical to the outside as a 19x10 24mm that I have now. However, what I am not sure is how much clearance there will be to the inside.
A 19x12 49mm is equal to 8.44inch backspacing. Can our 2GS cars handle 8.44inch of backspacing? What is the first thing that the wheel will contact towards the inside? Is it the inner wheel well or is it a suspension component/brake line?
Thank you,
BayArea

Dang 5+ months no answer. The most inward wheel i remembered seeing was a 19×11+47. With that size you would have another 12mm to the outside to get to around an effective 10+24. This jives with what i have normally assumed that an 11.5 is the max on a non-pulled fender with a non-stretched tire. Socalgs4 (not sure his username) is running a 305/25/20 on a 12 but his fenders are pulled around 5 mm's i believe. I think a 12+49 would be right around the limit to where it would depend on coilover spring size and other factors, but i don't think it will fit.

Did you already plug all the #s into willtheyfit.com ?
Assuming the specs check out there, I guess even if they foul inner wise - all you'de need to know is how much inner clearance you have to play with on stock wheels/tires...

Willtheyfit is a great site! Thanks for sharing
And does anyone know what offset socalgs4 was running on those 20x12 ? I'd like to see how much back spacing there was in that setup.

The guys works for or owns a wheel company and i don't recall him ever giving out offset info on any of the custom wheels he has had made. Why are you so set on a 12 inch wheel? I have never seen a 12 without fenderwork. I already told you an 11 or 11.5 will work with a 305. Are you just looking for bragging rights? His fenders were shaved and pulled and the entire car was repainted. His wheels are right on his fenders so his backspacing is less than a +49. If i had to guess he is probably around +36 to +42.

And just to be clear, i am not saying a +49 is impossible, i am just trying to tell you that size is so tight that you have to actually go outside and look at your particular car and measure and figure it out. I assume you want to widen style 95s. Ellongs widened some to to 13" and just ran spacers to get it off the suspension. If you have to bave a 12, get it widened, if it interferes, run small spacers and deal with fenderwork.

It's a bit more technical than bragging rights and of course a 305/30/19 will fit on an 11 or 11.5 inch wheel (that's not the question).
As you mentioned, I am currently using a redrilled style95 19x10 24mm with a 265/35/19 tires. After lots of fender work (shaving, rolling, massaging) I got the 265 to just barely clear the outer fender lips, and I mean barely. I have like 1mm of clearance to the outer fender.
I would like to go wider because I like the look. I come from the domestic muscle car world and just always been fond of a wide rear wheel. The 265mm tire measures 10.43". The 10" rim has 0.5" of lip per side so it measures 11" from lip to lip. That means that the rim (lip to lip) is 0.57" wider than the tire. That's key because that's how much I need to stretch to get the setup to clear to the outside fender lip.
The 305mm tire measures 12.00" in tread width. In order to maintain the same stretch I have now, I need to use a rim which will measure about 12.5" from lip to lip... thats an 11.5" size rim. Therefore I don't actually need a 12" and an 11.5" should work well.
Of course every brand 305 will measure slightly different when it comes to actual treadwidth so it will be close, but based on my calculations, the 19x11.5 43mm (widened style95) with a 305/30/19 should work well (especially if I stay away from the real wide model tires like Michelin Pilots). I will be running Continental DW tires.
I hope that adds a little more insight into what I am doing. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Based on what you just said, you should go 11.5. I am sure you won't run into interference issues inside. As you know you will may need to try different models to find the right stretch. Also if you can't get the right clearance, you could run a wide 295. Don't do 12 because if it doesn't fit, you would need to push it out and you obvious don't want to do that.

Thank you for the input.
Although the wide tire look has been done before, it's much rarer than the typical stretched look that most guys on this forum shoot for. So it's very helpful to get your input.
I was planning on running Continental DW tires. They are cost effective and will match my fronts (running the 245/35/19 on the 19x9 24mm). I'm wondering if anyone has used that brand/model in the 305mm and if they run in the wider or the more narrow side? I can post that question on the Vette forums as those guys are sure to know. Lots of them run that size (I did with my z06 a while back).
And lastly, I assume Weldcraft is probably the widening authority these days?
Oh and one more thing, I did a search for the guy who widened his style95s to 13" and he had to run a 38mm spacer to clear to the inside. That's pretty much spot on with me running an 11.5" rim (style95 widened 1.5" to the inside). Just a sanity check...

Ellongs made that measurement with stock springs i think. Coilovers springs would gain you a little more clearance inside but after researching it this much, you should now see why i said that the last .5" is difficult. It depends on spring size, camber settings, etc....and you would have to figure it out. I have never gone through the trouble of figuring exactly how many millimeters you can squeeze inside. That is why 11.5 is the safe bet. And like i said you could step down to a 295 if the brand you want runs large. I don't know about widening. Ask ellongs where he got his done, he has an instagram and posts on here.

I recall checking a couple years back but now it's slipping my mind what item is typically the first to introduce clearance concerns to the inside. I'm on coil overs. As a result, I thought that that first thing to watch out for is the e-brake cables? I'll check soon.
Maybe a 315/30/19 on a 19x12 would get the juices flowing lol ;-)
