Default Showing no oil on Dipstick!!!!!!

This is the second time i encounter this!!

(2001) GS300
when i check the dipstick with the eng off
the dipstick shows no oil, not even a drop of oil but when i
removed the drain plung it did have oil like 5 qts....
so any ideas why my dipstick shows nothing?

the oly thing that comes to my mind is that the oil filter might be blocked

Sounds like its low on oil . Next time add a quart of oil and see if it comes back up on the dipstick . It might take 2 to get back up to full .

oil filters have a by pass so that it doesnt get clogged.

I normally do 6 quarts of oil and it would show up just under full on the dip stick.

How about you measure the length of your dipstick and someone else who has a 300 can measure theirs to confirm if you have the right dipstick.(sorry I have a 430 and pretty sure its different from 300)
