By now, I'm sure most of you have heard of the massive recall and push from NHTSA for owners of early 2000's vehicles to bring their cars into dealerships. Apparently the issue is that the mechanism that deploys the airbag can disintegrate, and shoot shards of metal at the car's occupants. So far, Toyota has announced that the SC430 is affected by this recall, but no mention of the GS. Beings that the GS and SC use the same steering wheel and airbag, would make me think that the GS should/will be under recall. Any other news on this, or have any of you here contacted Lexus regarding the second generation GS?

Especially if you swapped in a 2002-2004 SC430 steering wheel and airbag. I was just about to pull the trigger on one 'cuz I wanted the wooden steering wheel.

It is only the passenger side airbag that has been recalled on the SC430's

The website shows no open recalls on my cars. For now....

It's for certain territories not a blanket recall. High humidity + a cheaper substance for airbag inflation in extreme temps = problems.

There's gonna be an inquiry into things at this rate because it's affecting a lot of vehicles besides Toyota/Lexus.

The stuff they switched to inside the airbags is used for construction demolition and mining operations. It doesn't like heat, humidity and other extremes.
