Default 2003 SC430 Master Cylinder Works in 1998 GS400

It most possibly works in other models (GS300 as well) but I can confirm that it's a direct replacement for the '98 GS400 since I just installed it into mine this past weekend.

I got the bmc off of a wrecked 2003 SC430 with only 80k on it. I took it off myself so I know it's what it is as opposed to buying one online and hoping it's what they say it is. I kept/used my original abs computer (located next to the brake pedal).

Dropped it in and after a good bleed, the brakes felt much firmer than with the original abs unit.

Since it's not only a better unit but less expensive also (dunno why - it looks exactly any other 2nd gen master cylinder), I'd strongly recommend going this route if you're in need of a bmc.

You swapped the entire unit including sensors and reservoir? Or did you have to swap anything else over?

Thanks for posting this, I was looking at doing this as I saw in an old thread someone did it, I posted asking about it and didn't really get an answer. But yeah, they look identical to our bmc. They're often way cheaper on eBay too

Wait, aren't the SC430 BMC not integrated with the abs unit? Do you still have abs? If so, how?

I swapped the entire unit; took old one out and put new one in; I even left the pressure switch in.

Regarding the pressure switch: Most 98-00 units have a pressure switch plug which has a "linear" plug (sorry for the poor description but you'll see what I mean). The pressure switch on a 01+ bmc has a "triangular" plug.
Most folks will just take the pressure switch off the old unit and install it into the new (01+ bmc) one.
I didn't do this because I couldn't vouch for the condition of my older pressure switch. So I just cut off my old plug and spliced the new one in so it would plug right into the new bmc. My old pressure switch probably wouldn't been fine but (1) I was feeling lazy (2) I wasn't completely sure my old pressure switch was ok (3) I didn't feel like dragging out the breaker bar to remove the old and new pressure switches.

@Coco-Bun:
First, what kinda user name is that? (lol)

Q:"Wait, aren't the SC430 BMC not integrated with the abs unit? Do you still have abs? If so, how?"
A: Not sure what "not integrated" means, since all SC and GS's have abs that are controlled by wheel sensors, the bmc and the abs computer.

Q: Any difference since the putting in the new unit?
A: It's pretty much night and day. Maybe over time I'd just gotten used to the slowly degrading brakes/bmc but it took me a few days (after installing the 03 SC430 unit) to stop jerking the car when coming to a stop because the brakes grab so much stronger/faster now. Not to mention I no longer have the chirpy bird annoyance nor does the pressure tank cycle excessively.

i like my coco colored buns... if you know what i mean jk

Anyways, I could be wrong but I was under the impression that the SC430's master cylinder did not have the ABS unit built in like the GS... again, I could be completely wrong.

If it works on a GS, awesome!

No, no issues at all. I hadn't even thought of how it's doing now that you ask, which is further proof

I did toss on some new front pads the other day and man, the car really hauls to a stop now with very little brake pressure.

But it's nice to KNOW that I have a 2003 SC430 BMC since I took it off the donor car myself.

Best of luck

Sorry to thread jack, Also fyi alot of suspension/ mechanical parts from the sc430 are compatiable with all 2 gen gs's.

Both were built on the same line, even share the same gearbox the sc430 is also a great car IMO.
